I have just finished reading a post about the Tribe and how they got their Welsh names, and it sparked an interest. I was particular with my hamsters for decades. I preferred long haired Syrians, both genders, although males were a favourite. It turns out that I am also fussy with piggies.

I have a very big soft spot for Rex coats (I have three) and Hymalayans (sadly none yet!). I do not have a gender preference, as I have some females who are very licky and who love snuggles, and my boar who does both! As for coat colours, I am also not very fussy, and I am not bothered about eye colours. Although all piggies are cute, I simply adore fuzzy bums in the Rex coat with crimped whiskers! (Yet my most striking piggy is Poppy, my short haired Dalmatian!)

So, I want to know if any of you are also fussy. Is there a breed/coat type/coat colour that you prefer? And if so, why. Simply because I am curious.

I love agoutis, specifically golden agoutis (AKA Oreo) :)! I have always wanted to own a long hair breed like a coronet though. I think himalayans are absolutely gorgeous, again would love to own one. I love Toffee's breed too (white and ginger short hair). Ginger is one of my favourite piggie colours. I prefer male pigs, and I feel bad for them, with more is rescues than sows.

As for hamsters, I have a special spot for Sapphire and Pearl Winter Whites (my own, Larry-Jasper, being a Pearl Winter White). He is a total heartbreaker and has the softest coat ever (the perks of my homemade mix) and being from a reputable breeder, with healthy parents. I love Syrians as well, especially grey/silver, and would love to own one, but don't have the space for a second cage and besides, my many boxes of toys are all dwarf size.

I don't know why, but I prefer having male animals. I've never had a female pet as when I decided to get piggies, I decided I wanted males as they are easier to find and I didn't want my pets in heat (nice eight-year-old logic). As for when I got my hamster, well, he had been named already (I love the name Larry-Jasper so much) so I had to get a male.

i love all breeds and colours, but i have a soft spot for shelties and swiss piggies, especially chocalate coloured, but i have all kinds of piggies, and the personality mix is more important to myself !

I love all piggies, but have a soft spot for gingers/ginger and whites. I love a Abbysian coat types the best. :)

I think the long haired breeds are beautiful but i'm not sure I'd have the patience to groom one lol. The piggies with the lilac colouring's amaze me, how does that even happen naturally but they are stunning. Of course I loved the tortoiseshell ones especially two called Coco and Patchy :luv:

I have a bit of a thing for fuzzy pigs (like my Miss Mollie) and abyssinians. I just love their coats. I have had all sorts of breeds of piggies and 3 of my current four are smooth haired beauties. But I really do love a fuzzy coat with fizzy whiskers or a scruffy looking aby with rosettes all over the place!

I am always in love with an aby. I have 3 currently and have had 2 in the past, they always have so much personality. I do also love my himmy rex (even though she is mis-marked), I love the fuzz of a rex.

I've not really had enough piggies to be able to formulate favourite colours/breeds but Willow (sheltie) and Marble (Aby/Peru) are my first long-haired piggies and I find the hair movement and flicks add to their expressiveness which is lovely. I prefer female piggies only because my first pair were males were a real baptism of fire with initial fighting and one having impaction issues, made all the more difficult due to being a newbie! I've been fortunate in that my subsequent female pairs have got on fine.

I would like another Silver Agouti Rex one day, I think that is my absolute favourite. I love reds too and adore the aby temperament but I've yet to meet a guinea pig I didn't like. Boars are my favourite, not sure why.

I love all piggies. My dream piggy is a lilac Peru. I love lilacs so much just not had one yet. For the most pigsonality I love my two Abys Tiree and Willow the are such confident and quirky girlies.

Does anyone know if rescues get Himalayan piggies? I know it sounds like a silly question, but I have never seen one in real life (I have seen plenty of pics!) and...if there are any Rex coats!

OMG! A Rex Himalayan! That is my dream piggy!

I have a rex coated Himalayan (though she is slightly mis-marked), she is still remarkably cute.
The rescue I went to, to get my Daisy did have some Himalayan's in but I guess it is a breed that not a lot of rescues might get.

As others have said I love all my piggies but I like the smooth short coats, and I do love pink eyed whites with a crest. But if I was going to choose a piggy it would be about the individual guinea pig that I would go for, I would prefer an older male, with a chubby face. Wouldn't really bother about the colours as long as he was big and cuddly. I prefer males animals for some reason although I have had a female cat, rabbit and rat in the past and I wouldn't have swapped my rat for anything she was absolutely wonderful. And now have 3 female piggies. I just don't know what it is about males animals that I prefer but i still love all my piggies the same.

@Flamestriker feel free to come round and see my himmy boy ! You can watch his ears change colour as you stroke him ! He'd be in heaven , I'm not sure if they do breed specific rescues but that might be an avenue worth exploring ! Attached a photo you might like ! :)

@Flamestriker I just rescued a rex himmy male from some one today. He is bonded (mostly, they are not best friends yet) with another male golden agouti abysinnian. These boys will be looking for a new home as soon as I know they are fully bonded and have each had a bath. I thought of you immediately when I got him today.

I am a sucker for shelties, though I've never had a full sheltie. I have had two sheltie crosses. Linney, one of my original two pigs as an adult, was very near and dear to my heart and she was a sheltie cross. Right now Hadley is my sheltie cross. I'm also partial to red eyes because a lot of people don't like them or think they're creepy... I feel like I have to like them extra to make up for the other people who don't!

What a great thread. I love himmies. Smooth coated guinea pigs are a real fave after all my childhood ones, esp pale cream ones with black eyes.

I love chocolate coloured piggies esp with a dash of lilac and red eyes. I have recently discovered sheltie guinea pigs and love them. My current two are long coated, perhaps aby x sheltie or peruvian and I am besotted with them.

I love fluffy syrian hamsters esp. laid back males (I have two) and I love roborovskis (I have two agouti girls). I also love chocolate coloured hamsters (I have a smooth chocolate girl who is the life and soul of the party and gets up whenever I go into the dining room).

Animals are just so soothing and sweet and calming and easy to LOVE.

I love crested piggies. My Rodney and Monty go all droopy and their eyes roll back into their heads when you rub them on their crests and I often find that they've collected a drop of water in it.

Over the years I've come to the conclusion you shouldn't judge a pig on their coat colour. Some of my most fav. pigs have been the 'companion' of the one I'd chosen on looks alone, and they've turned out to be the most affectionate/fun pigs you can have.

I've always wanted a black coated pig, and I finally found a rescue black abby baby in September. She's gorgeous, don't get me wrong on that, but she's proved to be a nightmare to find/interact with over the winter as she is very shy and she just vanishes into the shadows at the back of the hutch at night and I'm having to scare her and chase her out/catch into the electric lights every day to check she's ok etc. I'm really, really looking forward to longer daylight hours! She is improving slowly, but I don't think the winter 'find Wellington' routine has endeared me to her!

Other than that I have a soft spot for pigs with longer hair and crests.

This has just happened to me. I fell in love with Mistletoe and she is mrs hide away. Her companion (and sister) Jingle is much bolder and I now ADORE both of them!

I have no preference when I adopt, I'll take any pig like we all would.

But I do love a big chunky ginger boar. The colour is just amazing.

I had an orange boy many years ago and he had a lot of problems which meant he wouldn't win any beauty contests but he was so handsome!

I've no preference to colour or breed, but if I was going to a rescue to get a piggie, I would choose the ugliest they had. Because he/she would be the one that everyone passed by & wouldn't want.

That's something I'd do too And I'd spoil him/her rotten ❤ I took one in from a free ad site in January 2015 his name was fudge and I got him as a companion for my frankie. I was told by the previous owner that he was given to her by a friend so he had at least 2 homes before I took him on. Wasn't till I got him home that he started attacking us (was fine with frankie) but didn't seem to like people at all. So he went to the vets for a check up and he was fine. So every day I handled him with a thick dressing gown on and eventually with lots of hard work and daily handeling he transformed into an absolute angel! Gorgeous fella he was! So loving and caring instead of biting he used to lick us. Sadly we lost him in April last year. Miss that guy so much he was my world. I'd definitely take on another little biter again it was so rewarding seeing him transform into the perfect piggy. Such a shame his 2 previous owners were so quick to get rid of him and never saw his full potential. But if they didn't give him away we would never have had the pleasure of his company :D

Anything is possible with time and patience. I just wish that people would do their research before getting a cute fuzzbutt and realising that they do not know how to look after it properly or get bored quickly.

I have lost count how many times I have told people innP@H about this forum and cage sizes before they get something far too small for just one piggy without knowing any better.

There's a major flaw in your plan @Tiamolly123 - no such thing as an ugly piggy (to me anyway) :luv::lol!:

Awww cute!

I am sure that I will have a Rex Himi one day in the future. Something to look forwards to :)
