My girls are indoor piggies, they get grass time when I return from work and weekends when I'm at home.

The husband has just complained that our grass is getting ruined by the piggies spreading seeds and therefore weeds appearing on the lawn. Now don't get me wrong our lawn isn't a bowling green and quite frankly we have plenty of it.

So is it possible that piggies can spread weeds like birds?/ I need an answer from the guinea bible so I can tell him to shove off.
Thanks in advance.

Possibly, from the hay they are eating - some seeds may pass through the gut unprocessed :^- Also the seed from weeds will come from birds and in the air too so you can't just blame the piggies.

I would love some weeds for them on my lawn, but I do "poo pick" every time they've been out and my grass has remained - just grass ;)

So perhaps just say to your hubbie that you will go out with the rubber gloves after they have been out :))

We have sunflowers growing on the grass from my rabbits' food :)) Just that they dig in their food and knock seeds onto the ground.

Other than that there aren't many weeds.

Guinea pig poo is high in nitrogen - fantastic for the rapid spread of clover - the white flowered variety they won't (and perhaps shouldn't) eat.

I poo pick for that reason, plus it encourages the tiny slugs which I'm not sure about, crawling all over their grass :^-

The slugs or snails can carry lung worm which can be fatal to dogs, so why encourage them on to grass that your piggies will be eating?

I tend to use a very diluted green liquid manure for my grass when it needs it - only spring and autumn.

Thanks everyone for your replies, sorry it's taken me a day or two reply, had to find my thread again. Yep, I reckon the poo is good for the lawn or I'll just move them to the plants which will be good for them (poo that is).

Having looked at my neighbours lawn, there's is the same , the ones on the other side looks good, probably *** they have it treated regular.

So I've just told the hubby everyone's responses and he's conceded. So it just requires him to feed the lawn more often! xx>>>

Which means the girls get to scoff on the bottom lawn which is actually much better...nom nom yum yum.;)

Sorry to hijack a wee bit lil, but thank you for this LBB - had no idea it encouraged slimies. I like snails but my guinea pigs try and eat them (yes, really!) so want to keep them off the run etc.

No problem at all , makes for an interesting conversation after all. I didn't know about the slugs either, definitely got some good insight.
