finally, after three long months of drought and no wild grass available, we have had some thunderstorm and new quality grass is growing again in the parks. My piggies are eating like cows now!
this was their breakfast today

I have a little park just across the street which looked like a desert two weeks ago, but now the nature is sprouting again :luv:

this grass below is not their preferred, maybe it is too soft: it looks like the "cat grass"

this is their favourite one

this is a wild chicory

I don't know the names of these wild herbs but the piggies love them

another good thing is that the alert for the lack of water has subsided and the traditional old little fountains called "big nose" (nasone), so useful for us and for tourists, are working again normally

of course these seasons are becoming weird... now it looks like spring time!

Grass here in Scotland is nearly past its best so just send us over some of yours!

but you had wonderful grass during the whole summer... when I had to plan daily expeditions with bag and knife to the private gardens of the buildings, with people looked at me astonished from the windows... and once when I was picking up some grass the automatic spinkler system started and I found myself in the middle of the shower!:coat:
I actually don't know the situation of the grass here during winter season... I have never considered it. I hope there is something available all year round because my piggies ask for a certain breakfast in the morning... If I give them vegs they turn their butt and wee and poo on the vegs:sly:

Our grass here is still lush but I have noticed it slowing down a lot in the last couple of weeks.
It is cold here at night now, and soon all of the grass will be gone
Maybe it is time to start planning my trip to Rome with my scissors and collecting bag....:hmm:

great idea!
we can go together with bag and knife! Just like old women... here old (a bit oldfashioned) women go to the parks with bag and knife for picking up some wild veg (chicory) to cook for the lunch. In fact my daughter feel embarassed to come with me because in her opinion people think I am going there for chicory (for us).
(Anyway, last spring I used to go to a certain lawn with TWO bags... one for the piggies and one for me!:D I had found a yummy veg which my Nan used to cook when I was a child and it was delicious! I should go there again...:hmm: maybe the weather is the right one...)

Looks lovely! I'm going to have an attempt at growing grass indoors over winter this year, got my seeds ready..just need to get them planted! I dont see it going well, I'm not very green fingered but its worth a try!

very good idea! I see many people with wonderful trays indoor. I tried with cat grass last month, but I had a poor result, maybe because I put the pot outside and it was too hot.
If you have a garden I have found this lovely idea on the net::D

Grass herebis getting less lush. Also theybare building houses in the fields behind us so the horses there have less space so eat the grass much quicker.

Got four bags full today ready for the bonding!

we need to discover new places! when I walk around I always keep an eye at the grass and at the presence of some little private area with lush grass... :D and bag+knife are also into my car :)):)):))

We'd all like to have fresh grass all year round for our piggies! We also get funny looks when gathering grass and dandelions! My hubby has been known to just open gates and help himself out of others gardens! He's sure they won't mind anyway since he's doing the weeding for them! I'm not brace enough for that!

one day in the countryside, my husband opened a gate of a private garden where there was a lot of good hay left there and told me to go in, saying that there were only stupid hens around... well, next to the hens there was a dog! who did not like my visit! and while I started running towards the gate, my husband only kept the gate open for me!:( and then he said that the dog was only able to bark  (but he sent ME into the garden)

@Tim don't worry! my freezer is filled with pellets and I have no room for you chopped up! and my piggies as @Swissgreys knows prefer tea and scones!
But imagine if you arrived at the check in with a handbaggage filled with only grass! you should give some good explanation then..:D

Wonderful photos! Thanks for sharing
of course nothing can be compared with your famous "english garden"! we have a famous adage which says "the grass of our neighbour is always greener".
And your green is really green...:luv:

The saying here is "The grass is always greener on the other side of the fence"

Can I come too please? I'm waiting for a dry spell to give my lawn the final cut of the year, so it's still quite good just now, but not growing quickly any more. Its dry enough to get a bagful now and again but not staying dry long enough to take the lawn mower over it.

Get your living lawnmowers on it or is it too wet for them? Someone on here (sorry can't remember who) gets out the towel to dry the lawn off.
Too wet and too cold. We're only getting about 14C on a good day just now, so not good to go on the grass when it's not properly drying out between showers  and it does look yummy

waiting for you!:yahoo: we can go together to the park with bag and knife! just like two mad ladies!
I actually don't remember at all the situation of our grass during winter season... I hope there is something to cut otherwise my piggies will kill me :( Their gut is used to a lot of grass and if one day I change the diet their poo is different...
Why do you cut your grass? is it growing too long? what happens if you let it grow naturally?
My piggies don't get dry grass, I always spray some water on it, they prefer wet grass and it a bit of water was necessary during summer months for keeping the grass fresh despite the air conditioning at home. I don't have a garden, your is awasome!! Actually that grass of your garden is not their favourite one... too soft maybe... they are genuine and rustic piggies :)) with good teeth, no aristocratic salads for them:)):)):))
I hope your lawn will last for some months, now the seasons are warmer and warmer, maybe also in Scotland they have changed (Italy has become a tropical country... today on newspaper it was written that Italy has started the production of bananas )
