Some of you may remember my 'Layby boys', Zippy and George, who were found abandoned earlier this year.

Unfortunately when I fed Zippy this morning I saw his face was puffy, and when I picked him up I found he had a large abcess on his face. He went to the vets this afternoon and it burst on the car journey.... oh so much pus, foul and smelly! The vet squeezed it clean and washed it, and gave him Baytril. He's now indoors with me.

Him and George had been bickering a bit recently, but I had moved them into a huge hutch with lots of space and two bedrooms and they seemed to be getting on much better. Apparently not! They will have to be separated now.

His face looks like something from a war zone now, the vet shaved the hair off and he looks just awful and is feeling very sorry for himself, poor boy.

Please send healing vibes our way!

Thanks

Sophie

Healing vibes coming your way. salty water is good for cleaning and when youve got to get some pus out giving it a wee squeeze. It does smell so bad i know, can only imagine what the wee souls go through, i had an abcess couple weeks ago, i'm a coward but. All the best x

healing vibes from me, too! Ben has had an abscess but now he is ok! He has lost a tooth that never grew back though.

Sending you lots of healing vibes and love from Me and Chestnut
xx

Bramble, our satin piggy, died years ago from his tooth abscess (unbeknown to us they were prone to such things), and it was aweful having to flush it out all the time, and can sympathise on the smell, made me heave! I'm sure the little lad will be good in no time with a mummy as good as you, get well soon Zippyx>>

Oh sophie, I'm sorry to hear about Zippy. Healing vibes are coming your way :)

Thanks everyone... the last thing I need is a) another pig indoors and b) two more single boars! But hey...

He's currently in a temporary play pen with vet bed, popcorning like mad... I think he's actually quite glad to be away from bully boy George!

He's a funny pig, because he was in such a state when he first came in, he was syringe fed and got kind of hooked on it... he's so happy to be getting a syringe again! Junkie pig!

aw poor zippy :( Hope his abscess heals soon, they're a pain :(

all the best for Zippy... x>>x>>x>>xx>>>xx>>>xx>>>

I suppose his behaviour indicates that he's feeling quite up and he's obviously delighted to be fussed over. The lengths some piggies go to!:(|)

these little guys are so cheeky and so clever!:a19:

Abscesses are horrible, but facial abscesses are really awful. I hope the little guy is feeling better soon. Lottie had one a few months back - luckily Vedra removed the necrotic tissue and it never recurred.

Thanks - he was booked to see Vedra tomorrow, before it burst and I had to take him to regular vet. Still seeing Vedra, but with other pigs - we're going on a group visit (4 pigs!)

Thank you! I'm in two minds whether to include Zippy or not... it looks like it's doing ok at the moment, but they only gave him Baytril and I think he'd be better on stronger. And no pain relief... :(
