Hi all, I have just picked up Honors Zithromax for her ear infection but last time it was made up in to a solution. This time it is just powder.

Can anyone tell me how much Zithromax to add to water?

She missed her dose yesterday and now out vet is shut I'd hate for her to go a second day without it.

Thanks

If you are making up the whole bottle then you add 9 mls of tap water to the powder and shake well. If you look on the side of the box it should say this in the instructions for the pharmacist.

Aww thank you. Is it possible to not make it all up at once as I know it only lasts about two weeks and we are not back to see Glen for 3? X

Get a cup of water (distiled prefrabaly, but tap ok)
Get a 1ml syringe and add 9ml ! Put the top on and shake well ,
Leave for bubbles to disparse , and you will have an opak lickwid .

Once mixed it has a short shelf life so you could devide the powder into
3

NB, do not breath in the dust, !!

Great if I devide the powder into 3 do I only add 3ml of water to it?

Thanks x

I split in to 3 piles then use jewlers scales to get each portion eaqul 27grams or there abouts if l am not mistaken :hmm:

NB. If anyone feels unsure about mixing zith your chemest should happily mix it for you

The full box that is

Its wise to have a probiotic such as fibraplex as antibiotics can upset the pigs tummy and cause runny poos
My vet says if the pig is prone to tummy probs then it is wise to give the zith in 2 equal dosses , 12 hours appart

How did you get on with mixing the zith ?

Got on fine mixing and gave her them last night.

She i think they give her a sore tummy no matter how much Infacol, probiotics and gripewater, criitical care i give her.

She's a fickle wee thing, some days all she wants is hay, then one day she will only have a bit of lettuce, then the next day she hates lettuce but likes parsley and so on.

Not good in terms of having a stable weight.

Please don't give her Infacol. It's action is to gather small bubble of gas into one big bubble that (in a human) is easier to burp up. Piggies cannot burp so they end up with a big bubble of gas that they can't get rid of easily - bloat. Gripe water breaks up the gas into smaller bubbles that can more easily pass by the other route! Keep going with probiotics 1-2 hours after the antibiotic. Hopefully the Zithromax will kick in soon.

Dito, Infacol is not adviabal !

She should be ok , though just keep an eye to her poops :tu:

Thanks both. I'll stop with the Infacol and stick to gripe Water.

Her ear infection was cultured and Zithromax is the only drug that would work against the infection, so i know its the right stuff (Been only 3 weeks and it is a bad infection. Her x-ray showed her ear full of pus) . She just doesn't seem to be picking up but i think that's maybe because she has been gassy/blaoted and it has reduced her appetite and made her stressed. If i can get it under control hopefully she will pick up.
