Hi everyone.

I just wondered if anyone else used zooplus for hay. I get the bunny fresh stuff but it is dear £5 per kg.

The reviews of other stuff on there vary wildly so I thought id ask you guys as I know you all a bit better!

Anyway of anyone can help just let me know.

Thanks!

I tried buying hay online a few times from places like Zooplus, and the problem is that the quality varies a great deal.
We had a couple of decent batches but the last lot was awful - the pigs refused to go near it.
I called to complain and was told that as hay is a natural product the type and quality will vary throughout the season.
So no more Zooplus hay here - I prefer to get it from a specialist supplier or direct from a pet shop or farm where I can see the quality myself.

Good point well made. I've had two bags so far and it's been good. Seems like £5 per kg is on the dear side but not too bad. If anyone else any recommendations let me know!

I’m wondering wether that’s actually readi-grass hay, it states its grass hay and it’s very green which suggests it is. this is quite high in protein, fat and calcium so should be given once or twice a week as a treat really. I would definately not use it for bedding. Readi-grass does however store very well, so the price reflects that, that large bag will last you ages and of course piggy’s absolutely gobble it up in seconds 😁

We found the Zooplus hay a bit variable, even with good brands the use by date can be quite near like they dont sell it fast enough!

We buy Pillow Wad meadow hay and Science Selective timothy hay from Amazon every month on the subscribe and save deal (we get our pellets and paper bedding there too) and it works out about £20 for 8 kilos of timothy and £20 for 12 kilos of meadow. You can probably source it cheaper from a farm by buying a bale, but being city dwellers with little time to shop and storing all the hay in our spare bedroom, personally I like it delivered regularly in nice clean manageable size bags!

That sounds like a great idea. Thanks a lot.

Oh! I've been feeding them only this hay for three weeks 😂 I'll get some other stuff asap!

That’s if it is readigrass. Is it short and quite coarse strands? Smells quite sweet? And do they love it? 😂

Yes I guess so. They do seem to really like it. They're still quite shy but they'll all come and eat it out of my hands if I hold some in the cage.
