Hi everyone,

My gorgeous Zorro (the piggy in the profile pic) was acting a bit off. I realised last night he had what I could only describe as like a liquid cyst under his chin, around his chest area, near his right front paw.

I panicked and took him to the vets today, and they used a syringe to see what was inside and it was just very clear liquid.

The vets said it’s just a cyst and that sometimes these things happen. And they drained it. When they gave him back to us, it was still draining but most of it was gone, and he was instantly like his old self again. Quite happy and wanted to get out of the vets.

They weren’t concerned it’s still draining, so I am not too concerned either. I imagine with him moving about, anything that was left is still making its way out.

It’s just I went to check up on him and he’s still very much himself, but I think he’s cross as his whole chin area and chest is quite wet… any ideas what I can do? I’m glad it’s draining and not something super serious but I do want him to be comfortable. I just picked him up and he bit me. But happily snatched the hay treat from me, and he’s much more mobile than he was before the cyst was drained

I’ve looked on here. And can only really see stuff about cysts with thick white discharge? Has anyone else dealt with this.. and what should I do? The vets didn’t think he needed antibiotics or pain relief and I must admit he’s definitely back to himself… deffo think he’s just grumpy cos he’s all wet.. and he definitely doesn’t want to be handled either.

The vets said if it refills they would consider surgery to remove the cyst but they were happy with how they left it for now.

I am thinking maybe to shave the area? But he will hate it, and this is a large house which can get quite cold… I ideally wanted him to be nice and fluffy and warm for the winter!

I’m not a health expert but if the cyst has drained Zorro may just be having a really good sulk.
Maybe just use a soft tissue to mop his chin until it stops draining.

I think you are right! The moment the cyst was drained he was instantly in a better mood, no longer fluffed up! And was giving me evils and head-butting the vets hand like, “I’m done now, leave me alone!”

And I just cleaned them out and put fresh liners in, cos I thought that might help soak up the excess and it seems to be doing a great job (he really doesn’t want to be handled right now!)

He’s also been grooming himself, which I think he wasn’t able to do when the cyst was there…

He is just a moody baby at the moment, I’m just glad he’s feeling like his good old bossy self… if I handle him anymore today… I’m sure he will give me an eviction notice

Hopefully Zoroastrian is still improving and the wet area has dried up now
Don’t they worry us …our piggies 🥰
