    Getting spiders out of hutch

Move it to an open space and blast the whole thing with a hose. Then spray down with a disinfectant solution, allow to dry and respray. If it is outdoors it will get webs on it (our rabbit hutch does) and I just brush them off daily with a regular hand held brush from a dustpan.

    f10 disinfectant advice

Yes if you’re worried then give them a rinse afterwards but it is safe so you don’t really need to worry about rinsing - piggies can be returned to the hutch as soon as you’ve sprayed so it’s not going to hurt them I’d use the 4ml concentration to deal with a specific issue such as this

    Lining hutch with vinyl prep

Are you talking about lino (linoleum)? If so this only needs a primer if you are using as flooring in your house. My rabbit hutch is lined with lino, and I cut it a few mms too big and simply wedged it very firmly in place. It hasn't shifted in over 5 years! Plus it is handy to be able to...

Contagion - Inter-species Transmission and Pet Care During Owner Illness/Pregnancy (incl. Covid)

4 Transmission Between Pet Species (Zoonosis) Generally, it is best to ensure that any pets of different species do not come into direct contact; this includes rabbits. There are some illnesses that can be carried asymptomatically by other species that can jump to guinea pigs in direct...

    best shampoo?

They shouldn't need a bath if you have followed the prescribed treatment. My girls had mites and the last treatment was at the end of January this year. At the end of the treatment, I just did a deep clean of their hutch and run with F10 and washed any bedding at 60 degrees. F10 is a vet grade...

    Reusing old guinea pig stuff

So sorry you lost your little piggies. I thinks it’s rather nice new piggies using your previous piggies things like tunnels and bedding. It’s strangely comforting! A good brush and wash of fleeces is fine, you can buy laundry disinfectant to use in your wash if you are concerned. F10 vet grade...

    Help!

It looks similar to an earwig. I don’t think they would harm a piggy but I would get rid of them anyway. A good thorough clean every week with a good pet safe disinfectant should work. Keep doing it weekly until the adults and all eggs and larvae have gone. I think they like damp places so try...

    Cleaning while dealign with mites?

Hello. I had the same dilemma. I wasn’t sure either. So I decided to put on the treatment, then while they were out of the hutch, cleaned them out really well with F10 disinfectant. Then put them back in. Remember to throw away cardboard hides and anything else that you can’t disinfect as they...

Worried about giving elderly piggy Itrafungol

Hi! I have always treated on the lower dose as per prescription by my vet - 0.05 ml for every 100g of weight once daily. However, it can well be that in the meantime in more severe cases a higher dosage has proven to be safe to use in guinea pigs. My Ceri was the first itrafungol 'guinea pig'...

Worried about giving elderly piggy Itrafungol

Sorry for the delay, having trouble accessing the site from my phone! Thanks very much Wiebke! Sorry to hear about your poor Nerys, sounds like she had a good life. I agree that quality of life is the most important thing. Thankfully, Petal seems perfectly happy and healthy other than the...

    Mite treatment

My piggies had mites recently. I had to treat them every two weeks for six weeks (3 times each pig). The shop bought treatment is nowhere near strong enough. I’d get them seen by a vet to make sure it’s mites and then get the stronger treatment. Also between treatments I had to throw away all...

    Mites? Help

Hello. One of my piggies had mites recently. We had three lots of xeno every two weeks. I had to disinfect the hutch with f10 disinfectant and throw away all cardboard hides and wash all bedding every two weeks as well. It did take six weeks to clear up.

Looking to get guinea pigs for the first time!

Thank you for the info! I didn't know healthy rabbits could carry bacteria that would be dangerous for guinea pigs! If I get guinea pigs I'll definitely make sure to do the pigs first and be vigilant about disinfecting hands and any furniture bowls. Certainly wouldn't allow them to share the...

    What is this? Fungal?

I’ve now invested in F10SC disinfectant. It doesn’t mention mites on the bottle so I hope it will help anyway. I’m going to use the high level disinfection which is 4ml in 1 litre. I’m throwing all cardboard boxes away and disinfecting everything else the day I treat them with the xeno. Washing...

    Cage liner question

it doesn't make it more smelly because wet areas are still removed daily. my hutch base is pull out metal trays so not lasting is not an issue for their particular hutch. two of my rabbits are not yet completely litter trained. their hutch is lined with correx to protect it. again, the...

    Help...

I would clean it with F10 rather than a generic hutch cleaner. F10 is a vet grade disinfectant which will kill fungus. You can get it from Amazon and it comes either in ready to use spray bottles or a concentrated form which you dilute yourself (works out cheaper in the diluted form).
