    Static Mites :( Prevention advice

No it doesn’t make any difference. Mine live outside in a shed year round. They used to be in wooden hutches in the shed but due to certain circumstances now are in c&c in the shed. I have always disinfected my hutches with F10 - spray it in and it does get into the wood and properly...

    Static Mites :( Prevention advice

Thanks so much for this! All really helpful advice. I've ordered the lice & easy shampoo, but I'm not going to use it until my pigs have seen the vet and had their treatment first. I've bought some F10 from Amazon, and hopefully that should arrive soon and the current bag of hay will be...

    Resistant Mites?

Hi There is no recommended pesticide for guinea pigs that kills mites. Please be aware that pesticides and flea killers suitable for dogs contain an ingredient that is lethal for guinea pigs. The general cage disinfectant we recommend for deep cleaning cages (which is proven to kill ringworm...

The smell oh the smell 😷

I use F10 to clean the hard surfaces including the wood of their hutches. It’s a disinfectant but there is a version with a detergent in it as well - f10 scxd is the detergent version. Yes it’s safe, it’s a vet grade disinfectant. I’m not sure about using it on carpet

    Lice/Mites?

I’ve kept guinea pigs for three years now. I started off with two long hairs (Pebbles and Pretzel) and a year later added another (Pip). I’ve had Pip for two years now and when I’d not had her for very long I thought she had some kind of mite. The older piggies are blonde and grey/brown but Pip...

    Cage use after resp infection

That’s lovely of you to gift it to your friend. I'm sorry you lost your pigs. After a long time empty it is probably fine now but if have some F10 or if your friend does, then disinfecting it with that would make very sure (nothing survives F10!). I give all my hutches a deep clean with F10...

Bonding a 4 month old boar

Is it dangerous to put my boy in that hutch without using f10? My bluebell was second hand too and thankfully it didn’t cause any issue, but i’m a bit more educated now and don’t really know what to do.

Bonding a 4 month old boar

Guinea pigs it’s says but it does look quite gross in the pictures. I was planning on buying some f10 earlier but never got round to it.

Bonding a 4 month old boar

Yes I’d say so. F10 kills everything including ringworm (vinegar and water is just a mild disinfectant, it won’t kill much). I use it every six weeks or so to spray down all my hutches and wipe hides etc. Do you know what animal was housed in the hutch before?

    How to clean tunnel?

You will want to disinfect it as part of the cleaning process. I would make up some soapy solution with white vinegar added (which is a mild and safe disinfectant) and wipe it out with a sponge. Leave it to air dry. I would also, after using a soapy solution to wipe it, spray it with F10 -...

Rejoining and looking for some boarding feedback!

I have used 2 boarders I only changed because the first one had to close for personal reasons. The first one had hutches in heated sheds and used puppy pads and hay as a substrate she provided all hay and veg and I provided the pellets. My piggies also had outdoor time on artificial grass in a...

Rejoining and looking for some boarding feedback!

Hi everyone 👋 I used to be an active member on the forum a few years ago, when I had my little herd of piggies, who have all now passed on. A few years, some children and house moves later (!) I am now hoping to finally take the plunge and set up a guinea pig boarding facility, and would really...

    F10 Spray Advice?

I only leave them out of the cage long enough for it to air dry so I can put the bedding back on - i have hutches in a shed so it tends to air dry within a few minutes. I personally use the concentrate and make it up rather than use the ready made (a bottle of concentrate unmade has lasted me...

    Silverfish?

Thank you very much! I'm hoping it isn't an infestation, I pulled the cage apart and didn't see any more but assuming there is more since there was 2. Thanks for everyone's help!

    Silverfish?

Do you have F10? It's a vet grade disinfectant.. Hoover your cage out, and spray with F10. Do this every week until no more silverfish are seen. Their eggs are very tiny. F10 should kill the eggs. I know it's a different species but years ago I had an earwig invasion in the hutch which...

    New guinea pigs

Hi yes, the hutch was throughly cleaned, scrubbed and safely disinfected. I'm waiting on a new hutch to be delivered as the top bit isn't quite big enough its a 5ft hutch, we do have an indoor run aswell so they get the exercise and run around the house. But thanks for the advice.

    Bedding

If you have items which won’t be cleaned thoroughly by the product you are using then a good deep clean and disinfection is a good idea. Mine live in wooden hutches so it’s not possible to give a wipe clean in the same way it is with plastic cages. My hutches are lined with plastic sheeting so...

    Eye

Hi, My guinea pigs have both got an eye issue. Their eye is swollen with some very protruding yellow thing sticking out of the corner. At first, I thought they could have hay stuck in their eye but now I'm guessing it's an infection seeing as it has gone from one to the other. Could it be hay...

I am not having much luck lately.

Hi If the bleeding doesn't stop within 10-15 minutes, then please see an out-of-hours vet. Otherwise, you can gently disinfect the area with some homemade saline solution once the blood has dried. If you have any concerns, or notice any signs of infection in about 10 days or so, please see a...

Please help me - Bleeding lip after fall

Hi and welcome Please check your piggy for wobbly or broken teeth as well and for whether the jaw is ok (don't press, just feel gently for soreness or swelling). Any wobbly teeth should be seen by a vet as the break is below the gum line. Incisor teeth (the four front teeth) are actually about...
