    Betsy's Guinea Pigs

Squeaks 🌈 used to do that. He would stretch out the hutch so far that I would worry that he might lose his balance and fall out! (Thankfully he never did.) His wife-pigs never did that though ...

To separate or not to separate?

...when separated (either temporarily or permanently), they need to be side by side so they can see each other at all times and unfortunately a hutch doesn’t work for that. You can’t put one at the top and one at the bottom as they then lose all ability to interact and would become lonely. And...

as you can see, the hutch is just 2 inches off the floor, i maybe wrong but i don’t think a piggle could get under there?! if you think they could, is there anything you could suggest as bricks are definitely too thick.. do you think ill need a ramp? again i thought they could just jump it but...

    flooring in shed for run?

I mean literally polythene sheet - for example bought off the roll from a garden centre. It can’t snap as it is flexible plastic. The sort of thing a new sofa might come wrapped in or you might throw over furniture if you’re decorating. Oilcloth tablecloth from dunelm is what I use now.

    oil radiator help!

oooo okay! oh yes they have plenty of hay and hides etc. maybe it’ll be a case of putting the rad on over night lowest temp like you say to keep the chill out, then in the day just let it sit at whatever the temperature gets. then that way its more consistent. when you say about draughts being...

    Sudden loss

Normal disinfectant is OK but if you have a problem, then F10 is more effective for a deep clean. If you buy the F10 concentrate, it has the advantage of being much cheaper because it lasts you for ages. Just use one of the usual spray bottles once it is empty for the diluted refill. ;)

    Betsy's Guinea Pigs

They survived their first night together and all was calm in the hutch when I lifted the duvet off the front of the hutch this morning. More hay went in, rewarmed 3 snugglesafes and gave them all cuddles, combs (Misty and Bramble), weigh-ins (Saxon he's 1020g) and coriander. Saxon had a super...

Thank you. Nyx and his late brother spent periods in opposite hutches and parallel in the garden over the last three years with mine when they weren't staying at my sons. Nyx has been with me a month now full time If the worst happens Clary will be with him so will know. Should I just put Clary...

I have hand fed him some mint and he is having a little song as I type. Shall I run him parallel to my other pair of boars today as I've been...

    Fake grass

...find summer so much harder than keeping them warm in winter). Anytime it is 25 degrees or more it becomes a danger for heatstroke and for them to remain outside. Hutches and runs tend to run hotter than the temperature suggests due to sun heated breezes, and then piggies should be moved...

    2 story hutch

At the top level, if the hutch just has a hole where the ramp goes down and no guard rail, then you would be well advised to create a bannister around it (so they can only enter the ramp from one point) to avoid the accidents which do occur from piggies falling down the hole inadvertently

    Outdoor housing - temporary

I have only ever kept outdoor guinea pigs in a shed. I used a 5 foot single chartwell hutch from home and roost and put it in the shed on a very sturdy shelf built especially for that purpose. There is a section in the housing part of the forum with a lot of housing ideas which may be worth a...

from indoor c&c to ‘summer house’ need some advice please x

...make this decision. Sending you massive hugs. I can only guess how awful you feel. Lots of people house piggies outside. I’ve had piggies in hutches in a shed and a garage. They were fine. When do they have to be moved out by? Do you have time to lower the temperature in their room slowly...

    Guinea Pig Pellets

It’s minimum welfare size but 5ft is recommended size, even by the forum. Just because 4ft is minimum welfare it does not mean that a rescue will agree that that is minimum - they can stipulate larger as a minimum They would have been fine but bigger is always better

    Guinea Pig Family Hutch Picture

It's an old hutch door with a Guinea Pig Family on it. The Hutch fell apart years ago and I only kept the door because of the picture. Did anyone here ever have a hutch door like this one?
