Betsy's Guinea Pigs

Saxon is now getting very cheeky. He is clearly starting to feel at home in The Penthouse Suite of Betsy Towers. If he knows there's food involved, he will help me with opening the hutch door with his head, he will then proceed to stretch as far out of the hutch as he can without physically falling out to get whatever I have for them first. It may be veggie dindins or supper. I'm used to it now so put my body in the way to make sure he doesn't fall out of the hutch. Sometimes I have to walk up and down to make sure he doesn't fall out. Other times he will put his front legs on me to make me aware that he is clearly starving and hasn't been fed in eleventy billion years!

He's still not keen on being picked up so I put a hidey in front of him and he goes in there quite happily. The girls taught him that. It makes cuddle time a lot less stressful for both of us.

How lovely …..to hear about Saxon is very special …he’s really settled in and what a lovely boar he is - I’m sure you’re learning from your little tribe everyday @Betsy

Every morning the piggies come out for cuddles, combs (Misty and Bramble) and coriander. I have to get Saxon out in a snuggle sack as he still finds being picked up very stressful. This morning I gently got him out of the snuggle sack and the first thing he did was fart! Then he looked at me with his beautiful red eyes as if to say "yeah and what are you gonna do about that then!".

I always make sure Saxon has a cuddle every day even though he's not too keen on it as he needs to get used to it in case he is ill and has to be handled several times a day for syringe feeds etc. He always has the option of going back in the snuggle sack when he's had enough.

Yes, it helps alot if they have become used to being handled when they need medication. Saxon's secret weapon, straight out of the GPU textbook 😉

He doesn't think he's a lucky boy now. He's been wrapped in a piggy burrito to have his front nails clipped - he was fed copious amounts of lettuce and coriander so his teeth were busy chewing something yummy instead of the hands and fingers of son No 3 who was volunteered to hold the Saxon burrito. Back paws are next weekend's challenge.

The back paws are usually less dangerous for human hands.
Vicky bit my finger so hard a few days ago when I was doing her nails, we had a serious talk about the strength of acceptable nipping afterwards.
Well Vicky is a member of GPFANS and Kylie would definitely have approved.

Oh my, what gorgeous ruby eyes on Saxon 👀 ❤️
Those were the first thing I noticed about him on the adoption page on FB and I fell in love with him there and then. His eyes are gorgeous. When I have the light on in the garage they really shine. Misty has fire eyes. Depending on how the light falls on them they are either red or black.

I'm pleased I won't be in trouble with Sir Saxon Canute tomorrow. I managed to get the piggies morning grass cut for tomorrow morning before the rain came. Probably won't be able to get Monday's though as it's supposed to chuck it down most of the weekend now including Monday. They may have to make do with Readygrass.
