Worried about giving elderly piggy Itrafungol

Sorry for the delay, having trouble accessing the site from my phone! Thanks very much Wiebke! Sorry to hear about your poor Nerys, sounds like she had a good life. I agree that quality of life is the most important thing. Thankfully, Petal seems perfectly happy and healthy other than the...

    Mite treatment

My piggies had mites recently. I had to treat them every two weeks for six weeks (3 times each pig). The shop bought treatment is nowhere near strong enough. I’d get them seen by a vet to make sure it’s mites and then get the stronger treatment. Also between treatments I had to throw away all...

    Mites? Help

Thank you for this! I removed all their wooden hides and put them in the oven to kill any mites, got rid of their hay bags, the vets are trying to say this is not mites! So I am really lost!

    Mites? Help

Hello. One of my piggies had mites recently. We had three lots of xeno every two weeks. I had to disinfect the hutch with f10 disinfectant and throw away all cardboard hides and wash all bedding every two weeks as well. It did take six weeks to clear up.

Looking to get guinea pigs for the first time!

Thank you for the info! I didn't know healthy rabbits could carry bacteria that would be dangerous for guinea pigs! If I get guinea pigs I'll definitely make sure to do the pigs first and be vigilant about disinfecting hands and any furniture bowls. Certainly wouldn't allow them to share the...

    What is this? Fungal?

I’ve now invested in F10SC disinfectant. It doesn’t mention mites on the bottle so I hope it will help anyway. I’m going to use the high level disinfection which is 4ml in 1 litre. I’m throwing all cardboard boxes away and disinfecting everything else the day I treat them with the xeno. Washing...

    Cage liner question

it doesn't make it more smelly because wet areas are still removed daily. my hutch base is pull out metal trays so not lasting is not an issue for their particular hutch. two of my rabbits are not yet completely litter trained. their hutch is lined with correx to protect it. again, the...

    Help...

I would clean it with F10 rather than a generic hutch cleaner. F10 is a vet grade disinfectant which will kill fungus. You can get it from Amazon and it comes either in ready to use spray bottles or a concentrated form which you dilute yourself (works out cheaper in the diluted form).

Can guinea pigs get disease & virus from rabbits?

You can find a list of things that rabbits can transmit to guinea pigs in this guide here: Guinea Pigs And Rabbits - Why Not Best do a very thorough deep clean with a vet grade disinfectant when using a second-hand rabbit hutch.

    Normal or no?

Hi! Please see a vet first to close out any medical issues (cystitis etc.). When that has been ruled out, then please examine their bedding and care: - What housing are they in (hutch/cage) and what bedding are they on? - How often do you change it? - What cleaner/disinfectant are you using...

Is this fur being ripped out?

Hi! Please give 3-5 days of itrafungol the other three in order to prevent an outbreak in the not yet acute but likely already infected companions; the itrafungol will get to any infected part on the skin so they should never come down with it. Deep clean their hutch twice: once at the start...

Is this fur being ripped out?

Thanks Thank you my lovely. Am at vet now, Fudge has ringworm and the others don’t have an outbreak yet but all are being treated with intrafungol - you’re right it isn’t cheap lol! But worth every penny if it gets my girls healthy. I’m going to deep clean the hutch and keep squeak and bubble...

    Outside or Inside?

I’m having a bit of a dilemma at the moment and I’m honestly torn. I have kept all of my Guinea pigs indoors and they’ve all occupied my bedroom- a nice warm room that I frequent so they get human interaction loads and I can cuddle them as much as I want lol. I love having them next to...

Using F10 on wooden hutch help

Please don't separate as you need to treat both anyway since infection has most likely already happened. The incubation period (the period between infection and acute outbreak is about 10-14 days. Please follow the detailed tips in our ringworm hygiene guide, which also covers transmission to...

Using F10 on wooden hutch help

Had our 2 nine week old piggy sisters for only 10 days and unfortunately the vet has diagnosed ringworm in one of them. Both are being treated with oral medication as have decided separation maybe too stressful. I have bought F10 disinfectant for cleaning out, but now not sure how use this on a...

    Burrowing under fleece

Thank you for everybody's help. I tried giving them a canopy and moving them to a cooler room but nothing seemed to stop Pebbles! My biggest concern was him sitting in his wee (especially as a long haired guinea pig, he kept getting really sticky). In the end I've put a waterproof sheet between...

    Bonding!

Hey all! I’m looking for bonding advice. I had two pairs of sows. They shared a two story house - one floor each (it was blocked off so they couldn’t see each other.) I’ve spent the whole day bonding. There was some chasing, nipping and a lot of terrified shrieks! I have one really...

    Dry skin? or something else?

Hi, it would be impossible for us to diagnose from a photo alone even if we were trained vets. It could be fur mite egg casings but it could be dry skin. Ivermectin products should not be used routinely as a preventative measure, all that seems to do is build up a resistance to the product in...
