The heat is pretty brutal...
The AC unit is struggling to maintain 26°C and the humidity is rising as well. I put the girls as far away from the unit as I could, but I might have to get them closer, at least tomorrow (which is supposed to be the worst day; we might hit 40°C). The problem is...
...interact with each other through the bars, so that when Jace eventually passes, they’re already used to seeing one another and hopefully the transition will be easier. I’m going to see if I have enough C&C grids to make two 2×3 cages and one 2×4 cage.
Thank you again for your advice and help! ❤️
I have a lid on my c&c because I have a dog - it’s also on a stand
The lid is hinged so when open it rests against the wall
I think @fluffysal idea of higher grids in places sounds a good idea if it doesn’t make it harder to clean out
The photos show you my set up
As the full sun is on my own bedroom from 2 pm until sundown, temperatures are currently still climbing but I got it down to 23 C (from 27 C) this morning and it is hopefully not getting as hot again.
Coventry was over 32 C today but I managed to keep our lounge (which is in direct sunlight for most of the day and also has a roof light) to 24 C - just with very regular sheet watering about every two hours - mostly in comparatively very little water in our kitchen sink or a quick spray with...
Pain relief looks good to me? 0.8ml of dog metacam is a decent amount, good to see a vet prescribing it! So often they don’t prescribe an adequate dose.
Eating Fozzy’s poops perhaps means he feels is missing something?
Is he getting any probiotics or have I missed that somewhere? Something like...
...Woody’s Pets (UK) they have their own website and they’re also on Etsy. Adam was great and made me a custom cage to be the equivalent of a 2x6 C&C cage (210cm long), their standard cage I think is the same as a 2x4. It’s quite empty in the pictures as it doesn’t have their hammock stand in...
...of friends! These 2 are very different. They're now hopefully living very happily as neighboars in a 4x2 space each (we have ferplast cages but rigged them into a similar set up as a c&c).
I've learnt so much about guinea pigs and their behaviours and it's fascinating. I hope it works out for...
...while there is a risk with any surgery, in the hands of an experienced vet, neutering is one of the safest surgeries for them to have.
As c&c cages can be stacked, it means there is often the option to have two separate pairs of piggies one above the other.
The dynamic between a neutered...
Hi there, I am hoping someone can give me any advice or shared an experience please. My white long haired guinea pig has dandruff and is itchy -
I took her to my exotic vets and she couldn't see any lice etc and prescribed malaseb to be bathed in the last 2 weekends gone incase it was fungal...
Any success in finding Tango a new friend and upgrading her setup yet? It really isn’t in her best interests at all to be alone - especially outside where she isn’t part of the household’s daily comings and goings. You may be able to find a larger setup second hand, which will be more affordable...
...boars together is known to be problematic
Your aim of separating is to keep two together who still get on.
Any single piggy requires a 2x3 c&c cage. So you will need two 2x3 cages (one for the oldest and one for the newest piggy).
A 2x2 cage is not suitable as it is too small and...
...bacteria / mould etc and wouldn’t cause any respiratory problems
I looked into this when I was getting my piggies a new set up ( I opted for a c&c cage)
As you’re using coroplast and the piggies can’t get to the pine anyhow then it’ll be great for them
What lucky piggies 2x8 is a piggy...
We had some cooler nights that have helped tremendousily with the indoor temperatures.
But today we had another toasty 35°C. 🥵
The piggies are doing okay though I'm seeing a bit of weight loss, especially Vicky.
Just having Green veg is fine and she will be getting some vit c from them. Herbs are good for vitamin c content.
Fresh grass, if you have access to it, is also good.
(They don’t get enough vit c from hay though).
Does she eat guinea pig pellets/nuggets? If so then they are usually vit c...
You can get Proplex (coroplast) from Wickes - it’s in large sheets and can be cut and folded it to the size of your C&c cages - measure twice, cut once! Much cheaper than buying pre-made ones. I also made ramps out of square guttering. I use washable incontinence pads and fleece blankets for the...
It’s my first summer with piggies. I have 3 sows have a large indoor C&C cage (24 SA ft) I clean daily and change all the mats once a week. I read about fly strike. It sounds nasty, but how to protect? Flies are everywhere here in the summer (I’m in the countryside). I’ve invested in fly screens...
