Hello :) I have two boars, one aged 8 months and one 6 months. We bonded them about 2 months ago and after a week or so of initially getting used to one another they seemed perfectly content in living together in their 6x2 CC cage. However, a few days ago they began being a bit hostile with each other. The younger one (Stevie) began rumble strutting more than ever, and lunging at the older one (Ziggy). No blood was shed but I found small clumps of Ziggy's hair in the cage, perhaps after one of their run ins. Since then there's been no *big* fights and no more lost hair to be found, but they are constantly rumbling at each other now. They both eat, drink, and sleep, but whenever they're near each other the rumbling and raised heads etc. begins. I'm concerned because they've already lived together for months with none of this behaviour. Should I be worried or think about separating them? Or do you think that they'll sort it out between themselves?
Thanks anyone for your help!

Yeah hormonal boars, it’s quite normal with stages of their life, they should settle down, just keep eye on them,

Sounds like Steve has had a little hormone spike, they tend to last for a couple of days and then cool off. They both will have several until they reach adulthood. Rumbling is pretty low key stuff but keep a keen eye on them. try to leave a little bit of old hay when you clean them out and try not to rearrange their home as much as possible while these spikes are at their peak, have two of everything so there’s no chance of falling out over food and water
Good luck, most boar pairs weather “the storm”

They are both teenagers and at 6 months of age is the point of highest hormone output. Rumbling is a normal behaviour and on its own not reason to separate. Keep an eye on them though to make sure their behaviour remains within just mild dominance.

Thank you for your reply! I'm sure it's down to hormone spikes, I will definitely keep an eye on them.

Thanks for your reply! Yes, I think it's most likely down to hormone spikes as they've been living together pretty happily until now. I'll just make sure to keep a close eye on them over the next few months. Thanks again.

:agr: also are all bottles, bowls, hides and hay piles at least 1 piggy length a part? Sometimes when they have a wobble they may not like sharing so ensuring you have multiples of everything and that it's all spaced out will help.

Yes they have double of everything but I'll check the distance between them all. Thank you!

Sounds like you have done your best as far as the cage goes so let’s hope these two naughty little boys cool down 😊
