Hi, I was hoping to get some advice or any tips. One of my boars started to lose a lot of weight recently and I took him to the vet straight away. She seems to think its a dental problem but she gave us some food medicine to syringe feed him with and advised us to separate him from his two brothers. We did that and he started to put weight back on again and we gave some extra love and care. As far as we can tell when we hand feed him, he will eat but then he will stop and have no more interest in the food. He then likes to climb on my chest or sit on my shoulder and just lie down. He does drink a lot of water, more then my other 4 guinea pigs. He's also not his usual chirpy self either. We are booked in with the vets in the New Year for him to go under and have a proper dental check but we are going away next week for a couple of days and are worried he's going to keep losing more and more weight. Here is his weight:
22nd December: 638 gramms
16th December 658 gramms
11th December 711gramms
8th December 751 gramms
30th November 752 gramms
25th November 759 gramms

Please keep up with syringe feeding as it sounds like he has dental issues.

If he is reliant on syringe food is there any way you can take him with you or could someone else feed him?

Unfortunately we are going abroad for a week, so he can't come with but our neighbour is looking after our pigs and hamsters for us. The vet warned us that he could get dependant on the syringe feeding, but we manged to mix up his hand feeding routine with vegs, grass and fruit. Which he is happy to munch on for a bit but then doesn't seem to fancy it any more. Its the same case when we syringe feed him.
