Hi Wiggie, just read this new thread of yours. I think you must be a very strong person to have gone through all you have over the last few weeks.

Pip's Metacam was 0.4ml - it was the one for cats. I reduced it as he got better.

On a positive note, at least all of this is giving you experience for looking after your other girls too.

Take lots of care x

Hi,

Here is the current story. She had a bladder stone in the enterance to her vulva. This is an abnormal place, so keeping her trim may help her wee better. I have been exercising her alot with my hubby encouraging her to run around my bedroom, hall, kitchin etc. She holds her wee while she is out and wees when she is back in her run which is good.

The current issue is that I keep finding her puffed up. What do you think? Is she in pain? As it has been one week I am stopping zantac and baytril, do you think I should give metacam for a couple more days?

I am seeing the vet again Thursday.

So if you have kept up with me you would know Peples my other love had cancer and was spayed.... she is back to her normal self it is great. Her scar is very good I can just feel a taughtness to her scar. She has been running and talking. Lily is the concern for now.

I cremated Bo as I could not bear the burial. Her ashes arrived at my parents today. I will have her back at the weekend and I will bury her with her sisters when the time comes.

A guinea pig savvy vet should be able to remove a stone like that, often without any need for GA. I have had a couple of piggies with urethral stones and they have been removed quickly and relatively easily. Both piggies lost weight when they had these stones, so it would suggest they were in pain, and once the stones were removed their weight went straight back on. I hope you can get something sorted for your piggie soon xx

Hi,

The vet took it out last Tuesday. Monday a vet said she should be PTS I refused and another vet operated the next day. xx

Oh my god I cannot believe that vet said that! Thank goodness you saw another one. How is she now?

She is doing quite well. Just puffing up a bit? Maybe she is still in some pain?

She was pretty rough post op for the first 4-5 days, she seems better but is still puffing up.

She is quite happy when I get her running about and getting a rub and a pet.

Her pee is also much clearer!

Hey Wiggie, hope your piggie is doing ok now after the stone removal. I would say puffed up probably does indicate pain. I would not exceed tge recommended dose of metacam though due to the risk of serious kidney problems. I know some vets will give tramadol if metacam not helping so I would discuss again with your vet.

Best wishes to you & your pigs. We had a piggie with kidney stones last year & know how tough it can be, shiny :)

Thanks, I decided to continue with meds today as the op was last tuesday and I was told to treat for 7 days so I guess that includes all of today. I will see how she goes tomorrow and call the vets if tomorrow eve there is no change. I am not worried worried yet just a little concerned. I have kept to all advice as such.

I feel the vet has given me guidanace as opposed to pure prescription. I was told I could go to 0.2 ml in total but I shyed away as they seemed to be happy with 0.06ml before. I gave 0.06 ml tonight. I guess you can never get promises from any vet.

I am the one concerned regarding kidneys as opposed to being told to be.

Sorry if I misunderstood about the Metacam / kidneys thing :)

Our vet gave us the Metacam with the kg dosing syringe for dogs & we had to give the 6kg dog dose for a 1kg pig (1.5mg per ml Metacam). I'm not sure what exactly this equated to in a ml dose. If only all vets would use the same measure...

hi everyone. I hope you all are well. A few months ago I had lost one of my piggies due a few complications. Now her cagemate is ill. I found a few lumps near her nipple area and her stomach. I used to show the vet in Basingstoke but I moved to London and having trouble finding a good guinea pig vet. The Basingstoke vet said it could be hernia or enlarged lymph nodes but when i took her to the pets at home vets ( which is the regular now at the moment as we have moved to london), they said it is a mammory tumor. There's about 4 lumps. So a need aspiration was done yesterday and was waiting for the results. The vet has guinea pigs himself so i feel a bit better to show him as I think if the vets have guinea pigs themselves then they have a better understanding about them? He said that if the results do come back cancerous, then choco will have to have both her nipples removed and her lumps so its a major operation. I couldnt bear the thought of losing her due to the anasthesia but I'm in such a dilema at the momment. I'm worrying constantly because I dont want her to have cancer, and if she does I dont want her to have a major operation and then not survive through it. Please an anyone help me with this about what they would do in this situation and if they have had any experience of removing mammory tumors and chances of survival. Also does anyone know of a good guinea pig vet that I could do the operation with or is it best to stick with the guy at pets at home? I currently live in the Isleworth area, next to Brentford. Please message me asap. Thank you x

Hello Welcome,

Sorry i cannot help, but would advise you start your own thread, unfortunately dragging up old threads pushes down newer more important threads that need attention.

hiya, i have tried to start a new thread, but when i go on the forums tab, on the page i dont have the option to 'start a new thread' hence I'm having to post on old ones. ive emailed them so hopefully i can start a new thread. Will you be able to let me know how to start a new one?

Ok, i'll try to explain, (cant do a screen shot for some reason)

from the main forum board click on "guinea pig care discussion" then "health and Illness" and at the top of that section (on the left towards the top) there should be a green tab with white writing in it, saying post new thread.

x

thank you :) Have started a new thread now. hopefully will get some advice soon. x
