Last week I lost one of my guinea pigs very suddenly. He left behind 2 cage mates one 4 years old named Brownie and that was with S'more(my g pig that passed) for his entire life and another guinea pig(Puddin) and he is just under a year. Their reaction has been worrying me.

Brownie has diffidently not been him self he spends most of his time in a pigloo just staring of. He will eat but is not as excited about it as he used to be. And with me he is usually super friendly but now he is acting really standoffish. He is also very snippy at Puddin he dose not attack but dose not want him in his space at all.

Puddin is more subdued than usual and diffidently not him self. He is more exited for food and stuff and will occasionally act like himself but on the whole he is just more subdued than usual.

I have them in an 8 foot by 2 foot cage and I don't know if I should introduce another pig to the group. I think a senior guinea pig probably would fit best but I don't know. I am bot against getting a female and spaying her, but I don't know how they would react I am kinda stuck on this. I want to do what's best for them so If toy have any advice please share it.

I’m sorry for your loss.

They will be in a period of readjusting their hierarchy and relationship. If they are both eating, then I would observe for a while longer and see what happens between them. It may be that they just need time, or it may be that without your other piggy to buffer, that Brownie and Puddin do not get on very well.

We would not recommend adding another boar. I appreciate you have had a boar trio work previously, but it is the exception not the rule as most boar trios do not work. Adding a third boar at this point could be a disaster.
You would not be able to add a female in with two boars as that will cause the boys to fight over her.

Thank you for your condolences and advise I knew that boar groups usually don't work out and I was very luck that mine did. I diffidently will not add another boar right know. The problem is that both of the boars I have were very social with my last boar who was top pig. Puddin seems interested in a relation ship but Brownie snaps at him when he gets to close. I just dont know how to help them Brownie especially. If you have any suggestions please let me know.

The ‘looking after a bereaved piggy’ guide i added in in my previous reply will help, keep him occupied as well as the enrichment guide below. However, If Brownie decides he doesnt want to be with Puddin any more , then there is nothing you can do about that - you can’t make piggies like each other sadly.
