A rant - 4 poorly pigs and my draining bank account and mental health

Another update! Nutmeg’s awake after his second surgery today. We took him in to the emergency vets last night as we suspected the stone had moved and caused a blockage. He was looked after all night and they managed to express urine from his bladder, and he was given a lot of pain meds. Surgery today went well, and this time the stone was in the bladder still - though right at the entrance to the urethra causing a partial blockage so we made the right call taking him in when we did. Now just have to hope he recovers well and we don’t see any complications. He’s been through a hell of a lot, with so much life left in him, and I just hope he can enjoy his life now for a good while!

I'm glad to hear Nutmeg's second surgery has gone well today and that he is recovering. We are sending lots of love and thinking of you both. I know how hard it is with these piggies sometimes, I think Odin cost me £7000 over three months last year (though I would do it all again for my little man 🌈 ), and then Loki and Rocket ended up poorly around the same time which was another £1000. I was looking after Odin every hour of the day and night and not sleeping, and I was struggling mentally with worrying about him so much. It's so so difficult and I fully sympathize with your situation.

Thank you so much. That’s crazy money - but you don’t even think about the cost at the time do you, the vets suggest something and you say ‘yes’ without even questioning how much! I actually don’t know where I’m at with the bill after today, waiting for them to add it all up still. It really does take a toll when you’re scared to leave them alone for even a short while, but I’d do it all over again just like you would. At least we know we’ve given them the best life possible and put their best interests before our own needs <3

Of course and you are doing such an amazing job! Your boy is very loved. I wish I could say that for all of the animals in the world. Here if you need anything.

A sad final update to this post: Nutmeg passed away about an hour ago. He went to sleep and didn’t wake up, we went to the vets where he was staying overnight and he looked really peaceful, they said he didn’t suffer at all and went really quickly. I’m heartbroken, but I wouldn’t change the decisions I made and he deserved to have a second chance at surgery. He was a really happy pig right up until the end but his body just reached its limit. Thanks to everyone for the support on this post <3
