I was just talking to a collegue today about my piggies and she said her sister had bought ill piggies from a pet store and that I must have been very lucky. I explained I didn't get mine from a pet store and she just wouldn't believe that there are people willing to take care of unwanted guinea pigs and work hard to find them great new homes.

I am so very happy that there are people willing to invest time and money in the unprofitable rehoming of small south american rodents :) The lady who runs "our" rescue has done it for six years now with no intention of slowing down. She never gives up on a pig, says it's not worth going to the vet or adopt out to people she is not convinced will take very good care of the pigs. I don't have what it takes to run a rescue, but I'm glad I can support this one with stuff I can do, fundraising, legal advice and general cheer-up duty when things aren't going so smooth. I just saw Mette-Marit do her crazy popcorn laps in the cage and thought that if it wasn't for one special person she would have fed a snake.

So I guess I just got a little emotional about it, but you know, all you people out there who run or support rescues mean a world of difference to a lot of guinea pigs. Just because a life is small doesn't mean it's worth any less...

I'm off to get some parsley now, I think... :)

Beautifully said :) I had a tiny pig named Comet who was inbred, I rescued her from a horrible situation where they said that she was making the other guinea pigs look bad, as she was so small and skinny - they planned to just leave her and let her die. I knew she wasn't going to live long but I took her on and I like to think that I helped to make her short 4 months of life the happiest she could have wished for, rather than being shoved in a hutch out back, practically on death row.
I'm so happy that otherd do the same and care for them like we do.
Plus, Mette-Marit is one of the most beautiful pigs I have ever seen - how could anybody think of doing such a thing to her? She is so lucky she's got you :)

I concur, it really is great and shows that human beings can be kind to one another and to our fellow furry friends living in this big and sometimes bad world. I just wish I could do more
