I was just talking to a collegue today about my piggies and she said her sister had bought ill piggies from a pet store and that I must have been very lucky. I explained I didn't get mine from a pet store and she just wouldn't believe that there are people willing to take care of unwanted guinea pigs and work hard to find them great new homes.
I am so very happy that there are people willing to invest time and money in the unprofitable rehoming of small south american rodents
The lady who runs "our" rescue has done it for six years now with no intention of slowing down. She never gives up on a pig, says it's not worth going to the vet or adopt out to people she is not convinced will take very good care of the pigs. I don't have what it takes to run a rescue, but I'm glad I can support this one with stuff I can do, fundraising, legal advice and general cheer-up duty when things aren't going so smooth. I just saw Mette-Marit do her crazy popcorn laps in the cage and thought that if it wasn't for one special person she would have fed a snake.
So I guess I just got a little emotional about it, but you know, all you people out there who run or support rescues mean a world of difference to a lot of guinea pigs. Just because a life is small doesn't mean it's worth any less...
I'm off to get some parsley now, I think...
