Never had to flush out an abscess so can't answer you there. I do know that you have to pick the scab off though

.
@GPTV had to flush out one of her piggie's face abscess (Grace?) so she may be able to help.
Sounds like Anna is doing ok

i did have to flush my ageing, Grace's facial abscess out. the vet gave me Zithromax to try to stop the abscess growing & dry it out , (approx 10-14 days if i remember correctly). afterwards he then removed the abscess- he wanted to remove the whole capsule but it had grown round important blood vessels & muscles, etc so he removed as much dried out pus as he could & marsupialised the wound (stitched skin back to her cheek) to help keep it open, she was then prescribed (taken orally) the zithromax for another 10-14 days.
i had to flush the wound 2x a day with Baytril using a 1ml syringe. the scab picking really wasn't pleasant & i would open the wound hole & ease/pull any pus out i could see with a normal cotton bud (Q-tip) this would get the Baytril syringe tip in as deep as possible. although it went against my whole pet keeping ethos stuffing a cotton bud deep into her face/cheek, it did get rid of the abscess (it took approx 3-4weeks to completely heal) but when her hair grew back you would never have guessed she even had an abscess
i definitely needed another pair of hands to hold her/support her - she hated it & would leap about & run off at any & every opportunity, usually being particularly vocal about it! although with cucumber & a face full of grass, everything was ok again
Its surprising how much closer you get to a piggy when nursing them back to health, the bond always seems a lot stronger between you, even though we feel awful for giving them tough love at the time
keep it up sounds like you're doing a great job

xx
Healing vibes & a Speedy recovery to the ever beautiful Anna.
