So Ellen has has IC for most of her life. She’s been fairly stable for the last couple of months but she seems to be going through an acute IC episode at the minute and when I weighed her this morning, she’s lost 50g in a week :(

I have antibiotics and metacam at home from the last time. My question is, should I ride it out and hope it goes away by itself, start her on the meds I’ve got or phone the vets on Monday although I doubt they’ll see her? :(

Trust it to happen now :(

Please take a deep breath and don't panic.

Start the meds you have been given for Ellen's IC and ride out the flare. If necessary, give one capsule of cystease every 12 hours and up the metacam if she is on a steady maintenance basis, or re-start it at the prescribed dosage. That should help to cap the acute symptoms much more effectively than the sulfatrim within 2-3 days.

You KNOW that an acute episode comes with a small weight loss that Ellen always makes up afterwards again. 50g is about as minimal as it gets! ;)

Contact your vet on Monday for a pick-up in their car park if you need fresh antibiotics and your other measures are not effective enough.

And keep in mind that Ellen still only has got a MILD sterile interstitial cystitis! :tu:

Thank you and I will start her back on meds :) I’m trying my best not to worry x

It is just a nuisance that Ellen will hopefully get through as easily as she did through her last couple. ;)

Ellen is down to 863g today. She was 940g last week :( But I have started her on sulfatrim and metacam this morning that I already have at home. I am so worried :(

Please take a deep breath and calm down. She will stabilise once on her meds and recover her weight afterwards.

Remember how you are always there at this stage with her flare ups? It's not any different, just that she is another few piggy years older (months for you) and now a good old age so her weight is going to come off a little bit quicker and going back on a little more slowly. It is not impacting on her life span as such.

Thank you. I’m letting my anxiety get the better of me :(

Thank you I’m just really worried about her as this of course has to happen when I can’t get to a vet easily.

But we have been here many times before and she has been ok, I keep reminding myself of that x
I’m doing the same with my Rosie atm Claire :(
Sure they’ll both be fine in a few days xx

Dots been through a recent flare up aswell. But grass seems to help it be mild ( this isn't a proven thing to help before someone has a go and reports me again) it also really helps her mental health by making her really excited when she gets a big pile of it. I use grass picking as my once a day outside time during this lockdown
