Hi all

A couple days ago I aquired a pair of bonded boars off my friend who could no longer look after them. My hope is to bond them with my two males, Pip and Peri. All four of the boys seem to be quite placid and there is no obvious leader of any of the pairs. I have had them all out in the garden together over the last few days and they all seem to get on very well. There is minor incidents of squabbling over the hides but nothing extreme and no blood was drawn - all normal behaviour.

If all goes well within the next few days in the garden, I plan to invest in a large C&C cage with plenty of hides to try and introduce all four to live together.

What do you guys think? Has anyone achieved this before?

Kind regards,

wonderwaffle980

P.S. Here is a pic of them all enjoying the grass yesterday.

Hi and welcome

How old are your boys?

A quartet is in my long term forum experience the most difficult combination to achieve for any length of time. I know only of very few long term successful ones, and the majority of them are either golden oldies groups where the testosterone has long since fizzled out or groups with a disabled/carer companion situation, where dynamics are different. Otherwise I still very much have free fingers on my first hand.

If you really want to give it a go, please design your cage in a way that it can be easily split and keep in mind that the most likely outcome of a fallen out quartet is a pair and two singles that won't go back with each other; I have seen that situation much more often on here.

Beautiful piggies!
When it comes to boars, they can be difficult to have more than a pair together that all get on. I will say that if I were you I wouldn’t try it. They rarely work out in more than a pair.

If you feel you really want to, then be prepared with a plan b. It could result in your original pair falling out, and potentially having four single piggies living as neighbours.

Another thing is that boars don’t do play dates. If you’re introducing you have to leave them together and see it through to its conclusion - whether good or going south.
We’d love to see more pictures 😁

Hi Wiebke

My original 2 boars, Pip is 5 and Peri is 2. The two new boars are around 2 years old too. Oh gosh really? They all seem extremely placid. Watching them outside there seems to be 1 that takes the dominant role and the rest don't seem to care.

I will keep this in mind. Thank you for your advice. I shall keep you all posted with updates! :D

Hi Siikibam

Thanks very much for your advice. I didn't know about them not enjoying play dates, I thought introducing them slowly would be better, but you learn something new everyday! I'm going to give it a think what exactly I am going to do, I don't really want the bonds to break  My thinking as well was since Pip is elderly, when he passes I didn't want Peri to be lonely.
