Dried serum from fur?

Since Eliza's eyelids will more than likely never fuse together again after her eye socket had to be left open after her eye removal, she is producing serum and dead tissue from the area and probably always will :(

The problem I am having is now the fur is growing back over the 'wound', the gunk is getting stuck in her fur around where the eye was and I am finding it very hard to remove it without hurting her. It's like she has a scab stuck in her fur although it isn't a scab, just dried gunk but she has a clump of it that I can't remove :(

I have hibi scrub but this is leaving her fur hard and salt water isn't shifting it either. I am currently using tissue paper to wipe it with.

Thank you. The easiest way would be to cut it out but there is no way I am going so close to her 'eye' with scissors especially as she is so wriggly :mal: Plus I wouldn't know what I was cutting

Could you try to gently rinse and then dab off the fur after the hibi scrub, so the scrub doesn't dry on the fur?

how about a fragrance free baby wipe? Thats what I use around my horses' eye that runs a lot due to having squamous cell carcinoma :(

My parents have same problem with their dog. Her eye gets stuck up. My mum found best thing was to soak cotton wool pads in tepid water and leave them on to soften the crusting and it helps its peel off easier

image.webp Thank you everyone. She didn't feel very pampered this morning but my mum was there at the rescue since her and my dad are staying with us for a few days. My mum soaked it with some diluted hibi scrub and cotton wool and gently rubbed until it came off pulling the fur out with it! We then gently bathed it with lukewarm water. The wound is looking clean but it was gooey underneath where the clump has come off but I guess it's like removing a scab. My mum wasn't concerned and I trust her that it's normal.

Not sure why the photo has posted sideways.

It may do if the socket ever closes up completely but probably not because her eye socket was left open for so long.

The gunk is a combination of serum and dead tissue x
