Dental Any experience of abscess under jaw?

His teeth are annoyingly good, so it’s not that causing the weight loss/not eating so much. Kim took a little bit of length off but that’s it. So I’ve got Marbacyl to try. And there is another antibiotic after that to try too if that doesn’t work. Kim is not keen on surgery, she said it is risky because of where it is but she said if I want to go ahead then she understands. If we do decide to operate it will have to be sooner rather than later due to his weight (or lack of). Hopefully this new antibiotic will help and he will put some weight on, just a case of try it and see unfortunately.

We have got 14 days of the tablets then back again for a check and decide where to go from there

Does he take syringe food well?

I’ve been managing to give him three feeds of 15-20ml of mushed pellets the last few days to try and get his weight back up. He is up and down with his eating at the minute, one day he is wolfing hay down and the next he isn’t touching much. I can only assume it’s down to pain?

A little update - Chunk has had 4 doses of Marbocyl so far, he is taking it quite well. He is slowly gaining weight, I am feeding him 20ml of mushed pellets three times a day and he is eating hay and some veggies.

I’m not sure if I’m getting paranoid but I’m sure the abscess has gotten bigger over the last day. It is the size of a marble and I can get my fingers around it but it is fixed. I can’t remember the proper term for it but Kim said it could be an abscess or an abscesses lymph node. Either way she said it would go right back to his spinal column, hence her reluctance to operate. I’m really hoping it comes to a head so it can be dealt with easily!

Aw poor Chunk, glad he is eating well. Let’s hope you can get that nasty abscess sorted out x
Poor Chunk.
It’s good he’s eating but that sounds like a really nasty abscess he has.
Hope you’re bearing up too

Thanks both, it’s a little less stressful knowing that he is eating a bit for himself. I got really down when he was so poorly and not eating a thing, being responsible for feeding him to keep him alive is terrifying! He is being a cheeky little boy so that is giving me hope. I’m praying the Marbocyl does something 🤞🏻🤞🏻

Chunks abscess isn’t responding to the antibiotics and has actually grown, it is approximately the size of a ping pong ball 😔 so I have spoken to Kim and Simon is going to operate on Thursday afternoon. I’m so nervous, I know he is in the best hands but dreading it! On the plus side, he is very bright and holding his weight, he is snatching the syringe off me for feeds too!

In a way, I think this is the best thing that could’ve happened. It’s now operable and hopefully the start of Chunk’s recovery xx

Yeah I think so too in a strange way, I just want him to be back to his normal chunky self. Just got to put all my faith into Simons skills and experience! 😊

It's a nervous and horrible time for you. I had the same thing with Christian in May last year so I know what you are going through. His abcess was about the same size but in a different place and had adhered to everything including his stomach, his femoral artery, his penis shaft ..... He came through it fine and I'm sure Chunk will too. :hug:to you at this difficult time. x

Oh bless him poor boy! Glad he recovered well though 😊 I’m hoping for a straightforward procedure 🤞🏻🤞🏻 Xx

Good luck Chunk. Fingers crossed for a speedy recovery.
Sending you all hugs and try not to worry (easier said than done I know). xx

Good luck Chunk! You are in very good hands of Kim and Simon. Sending you big hugs from my furry monsters, Cookie, Prince & Sierra. ❤️❤️❤️

Thank you for those links, what an abscess! And really shows how thick the pus is! I’m the kind of person that finds things like that weirdly interesting, was the smell worse than stinky boar butts? Cos I am good with smells but boy butts are particularly gross!
The smell was awful so bad I really don't know how to describe it!:vom::vom::vom::vom::vom:

Chunk after his evening feed, still very bright and fighting off the syringe 🙄 his abscess has grown a bit more so fingers crossed for tomorrow, dreading waiting for a phone call to hear how he is tomorrow afternoon. I will also be a wreck when I drop him off in the morning! C0DF07AA-FBAA-4C28-9162-E0C583B7E69F.webp

Good luck tomorrow. Tomorrow will be a very long day. Thinking of you both. Christian sends Chunk healing wheeky wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeks!
