Are guinea pigs colour blind?

i'm not sure if they are but one of mine didnt like the colour red
he had a red feeding bowl on top of his home & never touched changed the bowl to a grey one & he started eating from it

They certainly don't see colours like we do!

I don't think they're colour blind because some of mine have reacted to different colours, although how they percieve them is something else altogether. I had one very frightened baby once who would only let me cuddle her if I was wearing a black top (I later realised this... didn't for a long time) and it turned out her mother was a black fluffy pig - so maybe she was making a connection?

PS...Wiebke - I ADORE your new profile pic... only just seen it but now I'm kicking myself for not doing something similar myself!

animals see colours differently from humans,I'm not sure what colours they see more vivid but I'm sure they dont just see black and white

Guinea pigs can see in colour, but their vision itself isn't good so they'll see it differently from how we see it. They can differentiate between, say, blue and red, but won't be able to distinguish between subtle shades like we do.

If you search through Guinea Lynx you should be able to find more information on it, with pictures showing how they can see colour.

I watched a program on guinea pigs and they said they can see in colour but the colour they see the most is blue.
