How many guinea pigs do you have? Are you at full capacity?

For the first time, I have room for extra guinea pigs! Previously, I've always been 'at full capacity' but now I've found myself with a spare cage. It is hard to decide whether to purposefully look for some more to add to the family, or to just leave it for now, keeping the option open in the future.

Do you keep as many guinea pigs as you can, or do you have space for more, but choose not to get anymore? Or do you keep space open in case you stumble across some you feel a connection to or are in need?

I had ten and was full to capacity.Due to bad health and financial situation down to three but have a small cage and extra grids if I had to take any in short term.Have connections with a rescue I trust and have taken in boys for a couple of days that were in a bad situation.Always leave room for emergencies

I have 7, at full capacity really though have an extra cage that's in the garage for now should I need it urgently, but not actively looking for more!

In theory no, not up to full capacity in terms of adding one more sow to each cage being a possibility, but I have two happy pairs, and if I add more and any fell out I would really struggle to house another cage.

i have two, i could probably have more, but it is more practical for me to stay below capacity, as it makes it easier to spoil my two.

I think the answer to that question would depend on whether you asked me or my husband! But seriously, I have 6, and that's as many as I can realistically look after without compromising anyone's welfare standards. I also have a dog, cat, rabbit and two ponies, so I think that's enough ;-)

I have two in a large 4x4 c and c cage with 2 additional 1x2 'hay huts' so could technically have more than 2 in that space but as they are a bonded pair of males I wouldn't add to them and I like that they have extra room to explore so wouldn't split it in half to add a second pair either. I am also struggling with time and finances at the moment so in that sense I am definitely at capacity (possibly even beyond). I do have a spare cage if needed for emergency situations but I don't really have anywhere to put it so really would be for emergencies only!

I would say I am a mixture of some of the above posts

I am definitely at full capacity with animals (8 piggies, 3 rabbits, 2 hamsters and a puppy), 2 x children, time and finances.

Much as I love them all (animals and the children :D ) I am definitely not getting any more as I think it is important somewhere in there to fit in some 'me time' as well :lol!:

I started off saying that 2 guinea pigs was my full capacity but that soon changed. I now have 6 guinea pigs, 1 hamster and 1 dog.

No more pets for me now! They're enough to keep me running around like a mad woman.

I would have loved to have adopted two more I've seen at one of the rescue's I use, they have two sets of boars at the moment, but I simply don't have the room, I was even looking into get skinny pigs but nah. If I had more room and no worries about vet fee's I'd adopt more.

Just got the two piggies :) there's a spare hutch in the garage but I'd prefer any more piggies to be in the c&c like the others. So yes, full capacity!

15 at the mo so at full capacity really, though a neutered boar may join us at some point over the next few months.

I have 13 of my own and have recently closed my little rescue so had more but they have found new homes through other rescues. It wasn't financially viable to keep all the rescues as well as I was struggling to manage the care of them all by myself.

I also have 2 pairs of bunnies.

While I have a lot of empty hutches I am selling them as no longer needed and I will be redesigning my shed x

sorry to hear you had to close your rescue @rosie and bramble that must have been a hard decision but to be honest I have no idea how anyone manages financially to maintain a rescue, it must be so draining.

It has been really hard @Goth Mummy but I have some great friends I have made such as @Stewybus who has helped me find them very good homes.

Financially its very draining but also the amount of work that goes into cleaning them and giving them all floor time etc

Pleased I did though and know I made a huge difference to those piggies that came into my care :)

:D I have 9 piggies (all girls) at the moment. That is just about up to capacity, but could possible fit in one more girl or boy - if that's all right with Bonnie, as the newbie would be living with her! But that would be the limit as I have no more room any where, unless I sell the sofa........? :hmm:

At Tees Valley Guinea Pig Rescue for a change we're not up to full capacity. At present we have one hutch out of 14 free & another one should be free by the weekend as a pair of boys are being adopted. This will only be short lived as we're taking in a bonded trio (neutered male & 2 females) on Saturday & possibly a pair of babies at the weekend too. If the latter doesn't happen we will be able to take a pair into the rescue from one of our lovely foster mums.

It is hard at times but very rewarding & since rehoming our first piggies in mid-January we have found 5 star forever homes for nearly 40 piggies. We don't have a website but do have a facebook page with piggies up for rehoming on it :) x

Two boars in a rather small cage (hoping to get a bigger one soon)

Would love to get another boar (much later in the future) but scared it won't work out. Plus I'm not financially capable of taking in more. Honestly in all senses I'm at capacity

Yes, at the moment I'm full with my two boars. Unfortunately one of them has cancer :( so at some point in the fairly near future I'm going to have to be heading back to the rescue to find a new friend from young Brunel.

Looking to a more long term future we are in the early stages of planning to sell our house and move somewhere a bit bigger in the next year or so..... One of the aims for a new house would be space for a 'pig shed', Then, who knows...... although I know I have to be sensible... there is only so much room down at my parents who take on pig sitting duties when we go away.

My boyfriend says we're at full capacity, but in my opinion, we are not! I have two at the moment, but the most I've ever had (when i lived with my parents; these are his first piggies) the most we ever had at one time was six. So I am definitely not at capacity! =P

I have 4 girls, it wouldn't be fair to get any more as the hutch is only 6ft x 2ft so just the right size at the moment. No room at the inn!

My boyfriend is the same, he says we don't have enough room, but that's only because he'll put a lot of tools in the spare cage! I can't help but look out for guineas, I hope he says yes to future additions soon :)

With the sad passing of Maggie I have room for 2 more that would make 10 but my daughter is off to college so time and support would be limited and it would become very difficult at times of illness (if it happened). Also the cost we have spent nearly 1000 since March with various vet treatment so financially as well it would be difficult. I think as time passes and piggies leave us a herd of 4 would be more manageable.

I have 4 at the moment but have previously had 7. 6 is my ideal number I like to have Trio's and as I have two pairs an extra piggy in each cage would be ideal. I like Trios so when one passes I don't have to adopt straight away.

When the time comes I will try and group my remaining pig's together but at the moment this is not possible as my boy isn't neutered. I think when this does happen my magic number will be 4. It'll also allow me to open up my two tier cage and give them free roam of both floors. At present they have 6ft x 2ft on each floor.

I have just added two so now at four piggies. Might just be able to fit in one more girl or a neutered boar into my 20 sq ft set up but I won't.

I have four guinea pigs living in a two tier cage that reaches the requirements but there is noway I could fit a fifth in there without the cage being too small. If I wanted more piggies, I would have to go back to having a piggy shed which I would rather not do as I love having them indoors.

I also have two cats, 3 gerbils and a degu. To be honest, I sometimes struggle to cope with them all at times so yes, I am full to capacity.
