Senior Guinea Pig
...chesney's wife is arriving and i have to do the bonding! i'm already hyperventilating here!
someone help me!! :{
someone help me!! :{
how long should i introduce them for before they are ok to live together?
You'll be able to tell almost immediately if they like one another, there will probably be chasing & brring & possibly mounting from Chesney but he will be put in his place by his "wife" if his advances aren't wanted. I usually leave mine for half an hour - an hour & if all's well move them to their newly cleaned home together.
It's easy to say but try to keep calm, piggies will pick up on your stress - i've been there & ended up sweating & almost in tears with some bondings but that didn't do me or the piggies any good. Now i observe from nearby, watching what goes on & am ready to intervene if needed tho' most boar/sow pairings go well![]()
ok, thank you.
someone told me to put them together in the day and separate them at night but wouldn't this mean the boding would have to start all over again the next day?
i've got a 'bonding pen' set up and i'll watch them and then get the cage ready and see how they get on.
it's gone great! couldn't have gone any better really!
ches chased maisie around and then had a break, and he kept doing this on and off for about the first hour and then he got the message that it wouldn't be tolerated!
after that, they settled down. they eat together, popcorn together, they peep at each other through the box and chat! and best of all, maisie runs to ches when she's a bit scared and they snuggle up under the hay! x)
they've been back in the cage (fully cleaned!) for about 15 minutes now, and ches has been kicked out of bed a few times since then...but they're still happy!
maisie didn't appreciate me picking her up to put her in the cage, but i think she will get better as time goes on.
so overall it's gone great.
thank you jane! you're a star! hows your little piggy doing?![]()
Wonderful news! Did you manage to stay calm?|)
