...chesney's wife is arriving and i have to do the bonding! i'm already hyperventilating here!

someone help me!! :{

I can'r help with bonding but I'm sure you will be fine ..... good luck :)

no, this is my first bonding!

i've read up alot about it...but that's different to actually doing it!

i've got a plan of action ready. lets just hope it goes to plan! lol...

Just make sure that you have a plan B as well, in case things don't go the way you want them to - if only for the sake of your nerves!

Good luck and much fun! And some nose pads - it's amazing how much testosterone a guinea pig can churn out!

The main thing is not to panic and don't worry if they teeth chatter. Be on hand with a spray gun of water and a towel to seperate if need be.

Give them veggies and they may just bond easily. I am doing this in a few weeks when nutty comes to live with us. :)

I followed the advice on the 'barmy4boars' site when I bonded Alfonso and Pedro- I know that you have a boar and a sow, but the advice worked wonders! Good luck...x

Good luck i do hope all goes well, and yes have plan A, B and C if necessary!
Neutral area, food for bribing rolleyes and yup the water bottle and towel if necessary separation............so hope not
Keep us posted :)

One important tip - don't put any hideys in until they are getting along well! Hideys are an easy option for cornering the "opponent". I have found that all my boy and girl pairings and bondings have been far easier than pairing up girls.

Yep your piggy is definitely arriving tomorrow, just spoke to Cavy Haven, she has around 80 guinea pigs :) But I promise I will only bring you your one! This is going to take a lot of will power from me x rolleyes rolleyes

No she said she had quite a lot herself too, lots of different breeds that she falls in love with, but even half/half would give her about 40 to rehome. She said she can house up to 180!, and she is going to show me round. As I said, a lot of willpower will be needed. xx

Bloomin heck! 180! :(|)

Aww she sounds lovely, tell her about the forum, but by the sounds of it she has her work cut out with them all! x

how long should i introduce them for before they are ok to live together?

You'll be able to tell almost immediately if they like one another, there will probably be chasing & brring & possibly mounting from Chesney but he will be put in his place by his "wife" if his advances aren't wanted. I usually leave mine for half an hour - an hour & if all's well move them to their newly cleaned home together.

It's easy to say but try to keep calm, piggies will pick up on your stress - i've been there & ended up sweating & almost in tears with some bondings but that didn't do me or the piggies any good. Now i observe from nearby, watching what goes on & am ready to intervene if needed tho' most boar/sow pairings go well :)

ok, thank you. :)

i always stress before things but i will be ok tomorrow...i hope! :))

i've got a 'bonding pen' set up and i'll watch them and then get the cage ready and see how they get on.

i'm sure i'll be posting all day tomorrow for advice! lol...

someone told me to put them together in the day and separate them at night but wouldn't this mean the boding would have to start all over again the next day?

i'll just see how they go and decide from there. i might have to try using some common sense! i'm sure i can manage that! :))

The short answer is yes, once you're happy they're fine with one another that's it, they should stay together.

I usually put put hay piles & veggies in as distractions & have previously put tunnels in, nothing where one can corner another & then i watch

I'm sure you'll be fine, can't wait for the update with pics! :(|)

whatever you do don't leave them alone, even if they seem to be getting on
that's happened to me before, they were outside in a run and seemed fine, i nipped indoors for ten minutes, came back and they were squaring up to a fight :...
make sure you've monitered them eating, playing, smelling each other and how they react to each other initially before you leave them to it

good luck =] i'm sure if you've read up on it you'll be fine, just remember to not rush anything and to make sure they've got plenty to do together!

ok, thanks everyone!

mabel is arriving midday ish (if jane can tear herself away from all the cavy haven piggies!) so i will update sometime tomorrow afternoon/evening!

wish me luck! :)

:)) it's gone great! couldn't have gone any better really!

ches chased maisie around and then had a break, and he kept doing this on and off for about the first hour and then he got the message that it wouldn't be tolerated! :))

after that, they settled down. they eat together, popcorn together, they peep at each other through the box and chat! and best of all, maisie runs to ches when she's a bit scared and they snuggle up under the hay! x)

they've been back in the cage (fully cleaned!) for about 15 minutes now, and ches has been kicked out of bed a few times since then...but they're still happy! :)

maisie didn't appreciate me picking her up to put her in the cage, but i think she will get better as time goes on.

so overall it's gone great. :)

thank you jane! you're a star! hows your little piggy doing? :)

They sound just like my married couple Jez and Sall. Sall is definitely the boss!
My little fella, Roly, is scared to death of everything. Brian didn't notice the extra cage. he he. He has eaten a carrot though.(Roly not Brian) Have posted some pics on General Chat. Great to meet you and Chesney today, and your huge rabbits too. So glad it's all going well. x

:)) my huge rabbits! aww! they're actually mini x dwarf lop cross so not that big! you'd pass out if you saw a french lop! :))

yes, maisie is definitely the boss! but chesney seems quite happy with the arrangement!

how long do you think it will take your husband to notice you've managed to sneak another piggie in?! :(|):))

thanks again and it was nice to meet you aswell. :)
