Hi, on itv at the moment is a programme called Auf wiedersehn pets about a woman trying to rehome four pigs. If you've missed it you can catch it on itv plus one at 3pm. Thought you might be interested.

Hello from a Norfolk ex-pat!

Bit of a sad name for a programme! I don't think I have seen that one. if its about people rehoming animals I think I would just cry all the way through it.

Anyone watching this? today's episode was about a woman rehoming 4 guinea pigs - 3 sows and an elderly boar. I was screaming at the TV when the woman said she was only rehoming the 3 sows and was going to keep the boar to live with a rabbit! The woman at Wood Green animal sanctuary in the Midlands strongly advised her against it. :tu:

I started my topic without realising there was a thread running, so I've merged the 2. ;)

Good on Wood Green. They are a fantastic rescue. That's where I got Matthew from. <3

Not happy where they ended up, especially when I've seen 2 different topics on here where they've had to be rescued.

Anyone seen Auf Wiedersehen my pet on ITV? Recorded it as students said it was about guinea pigs.
Dear me - not impressed - 4 lovely guinea pigs and the owner needed to re home due to a separation and the fact the guineas were not getting the attention they needed and got the choice of 3 prospective owners. Wood Green rescue advised her not to leave the elderly male behind with her rabbit which she said she felt would be better for,him (thankfully she listened)
The poor bewildered guineas have gone to a school - didn't think many schools still had animals - they had something like 7 rabbits and guineas and hens, all held by the kids - can't see one teacher would really look after that many animals in the holidays.
Majority of housing shown was too small and guineas need a run on grass not gravel with leaves which they ate. The old boy who was 6 looked so bewildered and they all looked scared poor things. Looked like the Guineas used the run that the lady's ducks used at times, you saw feathers - not healthy that.
Wishing I'd not seen it now its got me all annoyed :soz::(

I've just watched it on catch up. I thought they should have gone to the designer lady who worked from home. I don't think that either the school or the 1st couple were suitable. Agreed with the woman from Wood Green about keeping them altogether, it would have been cruel for Oscar to have lost his 3 wives in exchange for a rabbit companion for his remaining days.

Just watched it. And do not agree with the choice! Guineas are not for children and fair enough they get handled but can get overhandled!

I think the third would have been the best choice! Glad she decided to keep them together and not put Ollie with the rabbit!

Watched this and could not understand why they kept referring to guineas as children's pets  I also thought they would have been better with the designer lady

I too thought the designer lady would be best, although guessed she'd choose the school. Even if the teacher goes in at weekends and holidays, the animals are alone and unattended probably from around 5 pm until 9 the next morning - I wouldn't want my animals left all that time.

Caught this yesterday - the whole thing made me feel uncomfortable to be honest. The premise of the show itself is very sad, I didn't really understand her reasons for rehoming the piggys, the fact that she was going to rehome the oldest boy with the rabbit, and then the three homes they chose. Surely there were other homes available, as none were ideal. I don't think I want to watch this programme again, although there is supposed to be a piggy update on Friday! I would imagine some of the programmes would be quite emotional (although not in this case sadly). The piggys were gorgeous though - I would have had them :)

I think by the sounds of all your comments that the programme would make me too cross to watch it!

Have to disagree about guinea pigs and children though - my two are absolutely brilliant with their piggies, and would put most adults to shame with their handling, knowledge and care :) I think guinea pigs are great children's pets if the mum or dad is guinea pig savvy and interested and very involved. I just have to stick up for good kids!

My son's school just got class guinea pigs, which I have to admit I was not thrilled about but they have got a 120 cm cage, lots of hay, and one of the TAs who is very into animals is taking the piggies home each weekend. I did make sure that everyone involved in the piggie's care was aware that I was an "interested party" and that I could help with weekend and holiday care/hay deliveries/vet visits etc. I will keep an eye on them...... x

In my case I just ment that they seemed surprised people without children would want to own guinea pigs.I won't be watching it again as it made me sad and angry

i would have picked the first choice for the guinea pigs bad chic the school

I hated the programme. The fact she wanted to put the older boar with a rabbit started it off. Then the fact there were only three homes to choose from? What was that all about? ...

I suppose the only good thing was it brought up the subject of guinea pigs with rabbits as the lady from wood green was able to give the reasons why you shouldn't put them together as sadly so many people still think its perfectly acceptable. I must admit I was surprised the boar had got to such a good age given his owners lack of knowledge!

Just watched this and wasn't impressed with the rehomer. The first home she was more bothered about flashing her rosettes and the hutch looked very dark.No way would they have got the attention. The second home would have been a no straight away as well. Those animals are left overnight and weekend with one visit a day from the teacher. The thought of kids clipping nails made me cringe. The third home understood her concerns about ramps and stuff for the old boy but I would have talked to her about it and was concerned about the gravel and would have asked her to put some grass down.To be honest would have kept hold of them until seen grass down and flatter inside space.I would not have even contemplated the first two homes

The rehoming of the horse wasn't great either :(

What is the purpose of this programme?!

another 2 guinea on the same program on Tuesday 1 april I just hope she picks the right home

what did people think of the homes the guinea pigs went to today I sais the first lady

for some reason on demand didnt show the end. The first home seemed pretty good and the woman was very confident with the piggies, The second one great runs etc. But would have been concerned about an open top run and the third one had very small hutches with a few on their own (someone please correct me if i am wrong) and seemed to have a pretty restricted diet. No way would they get the attention they were getting off her and her daughter. And what was with all the carrot , thought it had to be restricted. The lady at the rescue advising said they had got their mites from shavings and it was bad to use (people that use shavings please dont slam me just making a point, mine were on them for ages) and they were on shavings in the second home. The piggies didnt seem comfortable with the last people either and where really fidgetty but in 1 and 2 they were very settled and calm.I think the best was the first one. The second lot seemed like lovely people but them being in a petting zoo would bother me. Someone please tell me where they ended up. Their original cage was pretty small for two as well.
