B&m Bargains Timothy Hay: Dodgy Batch?

I've had piggies for about a year and a half now and I've always used B&M Bargains Timothy Hay. The other day I bought 2 bags and it was completely different from normal. There are still green pieces but it's very dry (like straw), small, straight pieces- almost like the bits that you get at the bottom of a bag normally. The piggies don't like it as much.

At £2/bag it's not a huge waste but I'm wondering if anyone else has ever gotten a dodgy batch from B&M. Trying to suss if it's a one-off or if B&M have switched their supplier recently. If I end up having to switch, can anyone recommend a decent, cheap Timothy Hay? I live in Northern Ireland so most of the online suppliers charge so much to ship here it's usually not worth my while to buy online.
 
Annoyign when Hay goes off isn't it, we have recently had to switch supplier.... :( Sometimes it is just a bad batch so pays to keep an eye out.
 
I think this is a bad time of year for hay. What you are buying now is last years last cut so not the best. I've just bought meadow hay from two different sources and it's brown and dusty from both. Both these companies are usually very good but I remember this time of year last year having the same problem.
 
Just as an aside,I don't believe Nature's Own charge extra to deliver to Northern Ireland, because they use Parcelforce and Parcelforce don't charge extra because they're part of Royal Mail.

But as the others have said it's not a good time of year for hay anyway. I wouldn't necessarily be switching just yet.
 
Natures Own is one of the ones I just bought, it's usually my favourite meadow hay and as hay goes at this time of year it's okay. Not as nice as it has been, though I do recommend them normally. Their 5 a day Timothy is good too, I can only give it to my piggys in the summer when they are outside in the runs as my OH is allergic to the flowers!
 
Hopefully it was just a bad batch.
The lovely lady in our little local pet shop was saying she’s been having trouble with hay supplies because last year’s bad weather had caused problems.
 
I’ve had a similar issue with the hay I get from Jolleyes a week or so ago. 2 large bags were like that and the piggies rewarded me for my efforts by dragging it all over the cage and refusing to eat it, but the 3rd one was lovely and the pigs rewarded me by scoffing loads before they dragged it all over the cage. Luck of the draw, I guess.

I think from now on maybe I'll give all the bags a good squeeze while I'm at the shop so I can find a nice springy one. I'm sure the shop assistants will think I've lost the plot :xd:
