Baytril Concerns - Possible Cheilitis

Cheilitis is a difficult thing to to treat because it has a number of different potential causes. The baytril dose your little on sounds low if it's for the treatment of it. There are lots of different ways to treat including topical and oral like you are doing so. Is it getting any better?

x

Thank you for getting back to me.
We had the emergency vet last night who wanted to stop her Baytril altogether as he said the Cheilitis (he referred to it just as ‘scabs’ so perhaps I have been mistaken and it isn’t Cheilitis although it certainly matches pictures of other piggies with the same condition) isn’t life threatening however if she isn’t eating and drinking that of course is life threatening. He said the scabs seem to be in good form, for scabs I suppose, and he wasn’t overly concerned with them and they aren’t oozing or causing her any pain or discomfort for now. As well as stopping the Baytril, he said to stop using cream (I was using Zerobase emollient cream) for now also as the whole treatment with the syringe of
medicine and trying to put cream on her is probably making her stressed hence the unusual, worrying behaviour.
Thankfully she has really perked up today, back to her usual self for sure. Eating plenty, drinking, and enjoying her floor time, we are just letting her relax for the time being - the vet wants to see us again on Friday.
Hopefully the vet can come up with another solution to cure it that won’t cause her all this discomfort again, he said it’s so important to not cause her any stress which the syringe was definitely causing, I felt awful getting her to take it.

Thank you so much for your kind words and advice

Sorry to hear your little one is poorly. Cannot recommend taylor vets enough, their main branch is cathkin on east kilbride road, or theres Clarkston and east kilbride in the village too. The vet you want to see is Laura Cawley, she is the best with piggies! She's part time so I just go wherever practice she goes to ! There's also eileen mccann who has excellent piggy knowledge And is full time x

Fabulous thanks for your recommendations I will take a note of those.
What is the name of the surgery in the village in EK? EK would be perfect as we are often up there visiting my grandparents and other family anyway, it’s not far at all.

Thanks so much for your kind words, she is doing so much better since yesterday x
