I ran out of hay last night. The weather is so bad that I couldn't walk to the local pet shop to get anymore.
I strolled across the road to the corner shop: Costcutter.
They sell small bags of hay and I thought "They can't be that bad." ...Boy, was I wrong!
I grabbed the best sounding one. "Dust extracted. Clean and soft. No odour. Expands 8x the size."
I got it home, opened it up and it stank something fierce. It was a muggy, musty smell...It made me feel like my throat was clogged up. It was horrible.
I cleaned out the litter trays and put fresh hay in them, thinking my boys wouldn't care.

They just stared at it, as if "What are you feeding us?"
Ralph decided to sit in his and sleep...And Arnold just stood there in shock. :{

Nasty stuff!

So for those of you who have a Costcutter in your area...If you're ever desperate for hay...I advise against getting the stuff they sell.
I'd much rather risk wind and rain than buy that cruddy stuff again. pow-pow

Nasty! The description sounds good too - how misleading!

Thanks for the warning - I will def be staying away from it.

sounds like the nasty tesco value hay i got as i ran out and p@h was closed and it smelt horrid but the girls liked it..... not that i got it again for them!

I would write a letter of complaint too if i were you

Yeah. I would seriously not go near this stuff.

Both Ralph and Arnold were wheezing this morning. Ralph has a bit of a cough but he seems alright in himself.
He's never had the strongest of lungs. When I first got him, he used to cough and sneeze alot.

I binned that horrible hay as soon as I saw the state of them. The bag is in the bin, along with what was in their litter trays.

So yes. This stuff is a serious, serious nono! :)>>>

I'll leave my boys as they are for today (Get some medow hay later! )

I'd seconn what's been said about Tesco value hay - I bought it in an emergency and it's dusty and yucky! Better than nothing but only just!

Take it back and get a refund. I had the same problem with Jollys recently, although they are usually pretty good for their hay.
