Do you throw out a lot of hay at the end of the week. They leave almost a 2 inch layer of hay in the bottom of the cage and they ignore most of it and wait for me to put another handful in. Should I throw all this hay out each week?
Also guineadad has what look like cereal boxes stuffed with hay. 3 pack for about $40 and say it's microfilitered and only hay that's safe. Also say that it works out cheaper then getting elsewhere but idk about that. Anybody confirm if it's worth getting off them?
My 3 piggies finishes a box of 2.5kg hay in around 10 days. I guess it'll be a bit longer now that I only have 2. I replace all their hay everyday (they have different hay piles), especially when they are wet.Do you throw out a lot of hay at the end of the week. I find Guineadad's stuff quite expensive to be honest. You can probably check petshops and compared it from them. Or you can ask rescues where they get hay and farms that can offer you a better price. Also guineadad has what look like cereal boxes stuffed with hay. 3 pack for about $40 and say it's microfilitered and only hay that's safe. I sometimes put it in a pile again whenever they flatten it. They usually think they have new hay again and starts eating and burrying in them.Ok good I'm trying to get them to bury themselves but so far they just flatten the piles out and trample on top of it. I might try some orchard hay to in the new cage. I can't wait till next week. I haven't tried the litter boxes yet but I probably won't keep them covered
Idk I kinda like that it's all in a box and it looks like they jump in it and have fun. I'll probably buy orchard grass then for them to play in and get these which are Timothy in the box. A 9 pound box of Timothy was $27 anyway and guineadad is $40 for 12.5 pounds. Idk if that weight includes the boxes tho. I hope not. Plus it says they drain out all allergens and dirt and dust so it might be better then what I've been gettingI find Guineadad's stuff quite expensive to be honest. Is there a certain way I should store the hay? Idk if I'd be able to tell if it went bad because I'm slightly color blind. I just keep it in the box and close it best I could but I don't seal it air tight. Should I? I have probably 7-8 pounds left in the box and I want to try getting 12.5 pounds of this guineadad one now. Do you think that's 2 much at once that it would go bad?
As long as it stored correctly - isn’t exposed to damp, doesn’t smell musty - then hay stores for a very long time.
12.5lbs is only 5kg so isn’t much. You will use that up quickly so won’t be storing it for long anyway.
I have a lot of animals and I buy around 28kg (approx 62lbs) at a time. I use it all in around six weeks and it all gets stored in my shed in boxes the Timothy comes in and the bale is covered with cardboard from that I’ve kept from the previous Timothy hay boxes. It all stores perfectly fine.
Right now the best deal I see is a 50 pound box for $41.99. I'd hate to spend that much on a big box to have delivered and have it all be garbage so I'm thinking of sticking to smaller amounts unless I can see it before I buy. If only I had a vehicle or a feed store nearby.
Got it. I've been seeing a lot of people saying there receiving boxes that are already brown or half filled with dust. Usually with bigger boxes. The point I was making is that 5kg of hay won’t go bad provided it’s stored properly - even the considerably larger amount of hay that I buy doesn’t go bad and I keep mine for weeks at a time.
So if I'm using cardboard boxes as houses they can't have any writing at all? I shouldn't use this one then?
Do these look good guinea pig liner? I hope so I bought 4. Would one layer be enough you think? It says there absorbent, fast drying, and stops water from soaking through
Yep. Lol. Payed $10 each. I tried running water on it and some water gets through Much cheaper than guinea dad. I just wanted to make sure there's nothing dangerous about them or anything. I'll probably use my absorbent pads in some spots. The liner I have for there Midwest is awesome so far. To bad it wouldnt fit the 2x4
Anybody have wood toys. I saw a video where people soak them in hot soap water for a while and then put them in the oven on 210 degrees Fahrenheit for 20 minutes. I just bought a wood fort with 2 doors and a ramp for $30 lol so I really don't wanna ruin it when I try to clean it
Can I do this with vinegar and water? Idk anything about f10Mine have wooden hides. I’ve never done this with any wooden item.
I use F10 vet grade disinfectant for six weekly deep cleaning. Just make the solution up, spray it on the wooden items and then put the items back in the cage
I have kaytee cage cleaner right now. Is that good for the wood houses? I'll try the f10 next.
Also when I'm rinsing the cleaner off the cage. Can I just wipe it out with a wet cloth or do I have to take the cage out and hose it down
