Hiya
I noticed yesterday that Bella (4) was a little enlarged around her girly bits . . . sorry dunno how quite to put it . . . . and a little wet, but she's otherwise bright as a button and eating and everything so wasn't too worried, but I brought her in for a better look and kinda blotted her on a kitchen towel. It showed a very pale pinky colour and I thought to myself how daft I am, she's just having a season, just never happened to notice it before. The dogs parts swell a little during a season so why not a guinea.
Just checking again today and the situation looks a bit worse than that now. Still the swelling, but to one side it looks a bit raw (guessing she may have been chewing at it?) and is quite red, not actively bleeding though. Her poo looked a bit softer than usual.
Vets first thing obviously but any ideas? She was still first one at the food bowl so I'm hoping its nothing too bad. x

From what I've read and experienced, g pigs don't menstruate like we do, so they don't bleed during a season. I think bh the best course if action is to see a vet. I hope that it's nothing serious :)

She sounds like she may have a bit of an infection down there. They dont bleed/discharge like dogs as they ovulate differently. Hard to explain in full sorry. I would get a vet to take a look. I hope she starts feeling better soon.

Hugs
x.

Hi love i hope Bella will be ok, what has the vets given her?

Healing vibes for Bella xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx xoxoxoxoxoxo

I had a piggy (ironically named Bella too! :))) that had an enlarged lady area. I brought her to the vet and it turned out she had crystals in her urine! So maybe give her some cranberry juice, just in case

Hope everything is alright for Bella! xx

Thanks for your replies. Well this is the update: Monday took her to vet, suspected cystitis (sp?), given painkiller & antibiotics to be given by syringe and what a good girl having her meds! xoxo

Kept checking her as vet said meds would take 2/3 days to kick in, thurs (yesterday) she looked a bit less swollen in the morning, yay thought I. Phoned vet each day with news.

Teatime inspection showed incywincy maggots on her tummy, presumably because area still wet (from what we don't know). They took her in last night, now waiting to hear :(. They were cleaning her up when I left and going to do X-ray (for stones) and let me know. May be stones, may be tumour.

I rang at 10.30 but they hadn't had a chance to do it yet, now 1pm, still waiting . . . . .

Sending hugs and best wishes for Bella's speedy recovery xx

She's gone guys. 8...8...8...

She had to be put to sleep. The xrays showed it wasn't stones so the options left were severe cystitis, in which case she's not responding to the treatment and now the maggots are taking a hold. . . or a tumour, whihc they think is more likely as they coujld see a mass on the xray. Inthe bladder, so inoperable.

Funeral later. So sad. Love you Bella xxxx8...8...

So very sorry, you did everything you could. My thoughts are with you.
