Hello! I have a 3 1/2 year old boar, S’mores (he has a cage mate) who has been having poop issues since late January. The vet has done a fecal test (it came out negative) and blood work (signs of liver inflammation). He was put on a two week course of Orbax (antibiotic) it did nothing.
The vet says we could go up higher to (forgetting now) a more serious place to do different tests and such on S’mores… The vet said that we should try and keep him comfortable for as long as we can and just be aware that he has a undefined underlying condition. Vet says we can try Benebac to help with his poop, but she can’t guarantee it will work.

He is pretty happy and eating just fine. His weight goes up and down a lot. He hit his record low today 902g. Before these problems he was around 1030g. I’ve been feeding him Critical Care. I’m just wondering if CC will have to be a lifelong thing for him 😞

A package of gel Benebac arrived (I will insert a picture), the package says give 2 times, 3 days apart. But no specific amount. Anyone have experience with probiotics? How much to give and how often?

Thanks! 💕

Hi!

According to the packaging info on the back in your first picture, you give 1 tube for every 10 lb of weight; i.e. the contents of 1 tube for a guinea pig. If you wish, you can mix it in with some critical care and syringe as piggies can struggle a bit with multi-species flavours.

Perhaps a US based member can give you more practical tips; we use a different product in the UK.

All the best; I hope that it can do the trick.

Thanks! I mixed in a pea sized amount of BeneBac into his CC and he gobbled it up.
