Bereaved Millie is off for some piggy dating

Dodger sounds just like a normal, happy and very excited boy to me - having a girl who loves him and has seasons as well exploring his posh new home.

Give him time; right now he has several Christmases, Easters, birthdays and holidays all wrapped in one to discover, enjoy and get used to...
Thanks, Wiebke. I'm a little concerned that I haven't seen him drink. I've put a bottle and bowl in the cage as I'm not sure which he's used to but he hasn't gone near them. I've gave him a few cucumber slices just in case.

Please keep in mind that the need to drink comes before the need to eat, so he is not going to badly dehydrate. He will find the water bottle and use it when he really needs it. As it carries Millie's scent, he will know that it is safe to use.
Also keep in mind that not every piggy is a big drinker and that quite a large number will get enough fluid from their veg; the individual variance in guinea pigs is very big. I have several piggies who will only drink if it is very hot or dry but who will nevertheless lead a perfectly normal and healthy long life. Some of my real oldies have actually not been big drinkers, just to make that point!

Just leave Dodger be, stop worrying and let him settle; which will take a few weeks. He won't come to any harm whatsoever, I promise you! :tu:

Stop fretting and sit back and enjoy; this is a special time of unmitigated joy and discovery. Try to make the most of it because it is one of the most precious experiences you can get when you adopt. Set the hovering owner to one side and rediscover the healing power of giving another being paradise on earth. Concentrate on seeing the world with his eyes and not yours. ;)

I’m sure Dodger will settle down, he’s young and healthy, full of hormones and can’t quite believe his luck at the moment 😆

It’s always a bit of an anxious time when there’s a pair of newlyweds and one of them is a newcomer to the household, but try to enjoy getting to know this little man and his quirks. He certainly sounds like he’s made himself well af home.

When Odi moved in I thought that he would never be able to relax. I have had quite a few boar before but Odi was exceptionality energetic and couldn't relax for one moment during his first days. But a few weeks later he began to calm down. And one year later he still knows how to annoy the girls but they are a great group.
And Odi makes me laugh a lot because he is just a little crazy.
I'm sure everything will go great with Dodger.

We've had a quieter night last night. I have a webcam set up on the cage and Dodger has been splooted in his hidey for the most part. Millie even slept not too far away from him. I think she's got him told!

Millie will put him in his place, no worries 😆 My young boar gets told off when he gets too over excited x

My hyper young boar has been in with very confident Shadow. She tolerated a lot as she liked him, but also told him off when he was too much. He's a bull in a china shop. They were perfect together. Now I've lost Shadow I have to try to bond him with the most timid sow I've ever had, who hasn't been with a boar. I tried briefly, he went hyper insane and she was overwhelmed and snapping at him. I stopped it after a few seconds to let her build up a liking for him, living alongside, which I think is already happening nicely.
But I know where you're coming from worrying about a more timid sow getting overwhelmed! Hopefully it's going well if she's getting closer to him. I'm not sure whether my timid sow will cope.
Young boars are fun, Bertie knows his name now and when he's in a hyper mood, I can call his name and he'll do a zoomie, call it again and another zoomie etc. He now loves to be patted and will flump down for it, then fly off popcorning. When he arrived in July I did wonder if he'd stay still long enough for me to build a relationship with him, but it's happening. My previous boar, and the boar I had in childhood, were quite sedate, Bertie's my first insaniac boar. Fun and games 😊

The two of them have been cuddled up together in the hay loft all morning so I think he's calmed down and she's forgiven him. 🥰

Dodger has been home with us for over a week now and him and Millie have settled in together brilliantly. After the initial worries that he was a bit eager he's calmed right now and just gives Millie the odd "sexy rumble". 🤣

He's quite the cuddler and snuggles right into your neck if you pop him on your shoulder. I think I love him as much as Millie does!20211005_133037.webp
