Totally understandable. They are big! imagine a burgess mint pellet. 3 of those stuck together in size and chunky. This bag is def going to last at least 2 months I feel. Maybe a bit more. Ob you have more piggies then me but it helps to give you a rough idea. x

Putting it like that makes it sound more reasonable. With my 4 skinnies I'd love to see how it lasts...chubbas!

my two are eating machines... i guess it is what we endure for having hairless.... i just chuck in more hay when they start wheeking for more pellets and just take care not to look in their eyes so they cant make me feel bad HA! x

Do you measure out how much dry food they should have?
I'm naughty I don't, I just only fill their bowl up when the food gone

Yes I do, they should have no more than 150 grams of pellets as they should only be 5% of their diet. ( a small handful ) Thats what I fed when on Burgess. Hay is unlimited and veggies should be 1 cup per pig with one item of high vit C veg in there. Too many pellets/nuggets can make them fat and prone to health problems.

If Poe had his way he would eat a whole bag of pellets a day! Luckily I am growing harder and just giving the extra hay which they accept. Edgar doesnt really eat alot of pellets he always leaves at least 2 and opts to eat more hay.

How do I go about it with 4 greedy sows sharing a cage? I have 2 food bowls for them. To be honest they would rather eat their hay and grass etc but as soon as they have finished that they eat all the pellets x

@Wiebke I am tagging as she has many groups and can answer this for you, I have my two sepearated side by side :)

Thanks :) if I measure out and I can get into a routine of it I will happily try the Bunny stuff :) I suppose I am guilty to over feeding the nuggets, so will go through more than I should x

Everyone has to learn. I knew nothing 4 months ago really and have learnt and am still learning but it is all from here and the great people who support me. It has been a great help here and I am confident now to be able to chat to people about the basics of feeding and certain skin problems with Skinnies. I constantly read up here and use various tools to learn. I was feeding unlimkted Readigrass at one point until @Wiebke taught me all about that. This forum really is a wealth of info as yes we all still need to go to the vets to get proper diognosis etc but personal experiences are good to be shared as is the friendly atmosphere and support!

There is a great food guide sticky on here and I swear by it!

I read through this site most days.
Great reading others experiences and all the advice. Iv kept hairys for a while but only had skinnies for about 2/3 months. So so much conflicting info on them on the Internet.
Oooh I give mine a lot of readi grass....

It can make them overweight and does not subistute and replace real grass..although my boys do not and will never go outside as I disagree that they should be smothered in suncream it is not natural! I give mine a handful of Readigrass once every 2 weeks.

I feed veg in chunks either on a flat plate or spread on the floor, followed by small portion of pellets and then fill up the hay trays - all twice daily. Or you can train your girls to each from her own bowl each (with one one extra if the undersow is shoved off).

PS: Use readigrass in pinches as a special treat. It is fattening and pretty high in calcium, which can contribute to the formation of a bladder stone if fed too often and too much.

I put mine outside but only when it's warn in the shade and it's usually only when I'm cleaning their cage so for about 20mins. No cream that does sound weird to me too.
Ooh I will lay off the readigrass. Mine have real grass daily though x

It's the pellets I will struggle with, do you just put them on the floor? Yours look so polite all lined up! My 4 it's like bundle!

That pigture is so wonderful to look at made me smile getting ready for work!

They will wheek and moan and ask for more but they will have to put up with it lol! Chuck them more hay and they will get used to it :) dont give in to the piggy dog eyes! Ha x

Good to know. Wonder how they will take it lol x

I would reduce the pellets gradually or you'll have a riot on your hands. Young piggies up to about 4-6 months need unlimited pellets or around 40g. Once their weekly weight gain is slowing down, you gradullay reduce the pellets to the handful or half (10-20g) that mature adult piggies need from about 12-15 months onwards. You can simply scatter the pellets on the floor if that helps with the greedy pigs. They will still have the tendency to sit on the biggest heap if they can get away with it...

So I have 3 x 11 week olds, and 1 x 14month old. Sorry to be thick but how do I go about it with their different ages?

@Wiebke The bottom picture is amazing!

Mine are currently on museli but I am slowly changing them over the Burgess Excel nuggets.

I have been reducing the amount of nuggets...they aren't too happy but I'm making sure they have loads of hay and plenty of fresh grass and veg.

Definitely want to get them off of burgess now though due to the thread about teeth breaking...
