Junior Guinea Pig
Wow how big are the pellets if they only need 5 each? Maybe I will try with my skinnies. I want what's best buy like I said at the moment I'm waiting to start a new job so haven't the money
Totally understandable. They are big! imagine a burgess mint pellet. 3 of those stuck together in size and chunky. This bag is def going to last at least 2 months I feel. Maybe a bit more. Ob you have more piggies then me but it helps to give you a rough idea. xWow how big are the pellets if they only need 5 each? Maybe I will try with my skinnies. my two are eating machines... i guess it is what we endure for having hairless.... i just chuck in more hay when they start wheeking for more pellets and just take care not to look in their eyes so they cant make me feel bad HA! xPutting it like that makes it sound more reasonable. With my 4 skinnies I'd love to see how it lasts...chubbas!
Yes I do, they should have no more than 150 grams of pellets as they should only be 5% of their diet. ( a small handful ) Thats what I fed when on Burgess. Hay is unlimited and veggies should be 1 cup per pig with one item of high vit C veg in there. Too many pellets/nuggets can make them fat and prone to health problems.Do you measure out how much dry food they should have?
I'm naughty I don't, I just only fill their bowl up when the food gone
@Wiebke I am tagging as she has many groups and can answer this for you, I have my two sepearated side by sideHow do I go about it with 4 greedy sows sharing a cage? I have 2 food bowls for them. To be honest they would rather eat their hay and grass etc but as soon as they have finished that they eat all the pellets x
It can make them overweight and does not subistute and replace real grass..although my boys do not and will never go outside as I disagree that they should be smothered in suncream it is not natural! I give mine a handful of Readigrass once every 2 weeks.I read through this site most days.
Great reading others experiences and all the advice. Iv kept hairys for a while but only had skinnies for about 2/3 months. So so much conflicting info on them on the Internet.
Oooh I give mine a lot of readi grass....

That pigture is so wonderful to look at made me smile getting ready for work!I feed veg in chunks either on a flat plate or spread on the floor, followed by small portion of pellets and then fill up the hay trays - all twice daily. Or you can train your girls to each from her own bowl each (with one one extra if the undersow is shoved off).

PS: Use readigrass in pinches as a special treat. It is fattening and pretty high in calcium, which can contribute to the formation of a bladder stone if fed too often and too much.
Good to know. Wonder how they will take it lol x
