Betsy's lost weight - vet visit Friday

My little Prince is still not eating by himself since the abscess in his chin was removed last Monday. So critical care still, though he would eat cucumber when being hand fed and he would eat some grass and hay (not much though). We think the antibiotic is causing him to lose his appetite. Last day today though so hopefully he'll pick up in the following days.

Weirdly enough, this afternoon, he started eating by himself. Loads of cucumber and melon, hay, his favorite selective nuggets and loads of grass. I've only given him 2 feeds of 5 mls of critical care and he managed to get back to 1140 grams in weight tonight. That was his weight last week when we took him for the op. Hopefully by tomorrow, we won't have to feed him CC and eat all by himself. I think he found out I told about him not being a good boy. :D:D

She took her medicine tonight - a bit tricky as she decided she liked the hay cube better than the pipe and refused to budge again. I'll weigh her again tomorrow morning and see if she's started gaining weight again. There were a couple of smooshy poops in the run tonight when I cleaned up and as all 5 are in there I can't tell if it's Betsy's or not. I suspect it is as Baytril does funny things to tummies. She seems to be eating OK. Tucking into hay, pellets and forage that I have put in the run just to make sure she eats something good for her. They only normally get forage in the winter so it is a special treat for them all.

I had to laugh this morning when the summer house collapsed on Dennis ha ha! Hooman Slave had just put me back in the run and you can just see me in the top left hand corner having a good laugh at his expense. He makes me laugh and I do love him so much!

Oh Betsy, I am sorry you are poorly and worrying your Hooman. I hope that you are feelign better today, that Baytril can make tummies go like washing machines. Ziggy says she hopes you feels better soon and that the hopspital cage isn't too bad (mummy pust me in theres with Biscuit as Biscuit has easy poops to idenitfy).

and hugs for your mummy she is having a rough time recently (((((((( hugs)))))) I hope you are all better soon and can enjoy the summer (and I know what it is like to have a favourite piggy even when you shouldnt).

Hooman Slave decided not to put me in the "Hopsicle Cage" as I had only lost a itty bitty bit of weight and this morning I had gained a whole 2g on yesterday so there goes my bikini bod! I am feeling a bit better today it must be the battyrilla working which I really like! I lick my lips afterwards. Christian thinks I'm weird cos he hated the stuff when he had it and told me he only took it cos he knew his nice medicine was coming immediately afterwards. I did another load of smoochy poop last night and this morning just to worry Hooman Slave but it's not too bad. Hope you soon feel better Ziggy.

Hi Slaves and Piggies
I decided I wanted to stay in Sharkey this morning for my medicine. When Hooman Slave tried to take me out I nipped her! I know it was naughty but I couldn't help it I needed to stay in my Sharkey! cos I felt nice and safe in there.

After taking my lovely Battyrilla, Hooman Slave managed to take me out of Sharkey without me nipping her (I was too busy licking my lips after my Battyrilla) to weigh me and I have put on another 4g since yesterday. I won't be able to fit in my bikini now! Oh well I wasn't planning on going to the beach anytime soon.

I'd just like to thank everyone and everypig again who has been wishing me well all your healing vibes must have worked cos I'm feeling so much better now.

Hooman Slave got my Sharkey from here https://www.amazon.co.uk/s/ref=nb_s...use&rh=n:340840031,k:Shark+small+animal+house She didn't like the cushion it came with as it was very stinky after a couple of wee's and didn't wash well and was still stinky after so now she puts in one of our pee pads which we prefer.

Dear Betsy,

If you need some extra weight then my hoomans and the vet man say I have about 200g spare on my tummy and I cant have pellets until it goes away. But I steal the other piggies pellets anyway and yesterday a little hooman boy fed me a whole carrot. I could send you my tummy fat and some stolen pellets and secret carrots if it helps you get better!
Hooman mummy slave says my poorly leg will get better if I lose weight, silly hoomans saying some piggies get better if they get fatter and some need to get thinner, but medicine does help you get better because I get yummy metacam then I can run about and chase my friend Piggle.

Well done Betsy! Keep getting your weight back up. You are in my thoughts. I hope your mummy keeps spoiling you with hugs, kisses and loads of food.

I am slowly getting myself into normal too like you. Mummy weighed me this morning and it's 1148g. She was so happy. I am also doing some exercise in the living room and eating other food I love. My little sister Sierra keeps on chasing me and sitting next to me though and it sometimes makes me growl at her. Haha.

I was feeling brave this morning so I chased Velvet out of my Sharkey (Velvet is DA BOSS :yikes:) and what she says goes. Hooman Slave was pleased about it cos I am obviously feeling better to take on Velvet!

Clover if your Mummy and your nice vet man say you are overweight you must trust them cos too much weight isn't healthy for a piggie so I'm afraid it's no more secret carrots or pellets for you. Thank you so much for your very kind offer of some of your belly fat but you can only get rid of it by less food and more exercise. Keep up the exercise and you will have your bikini bod by next year!

Prince I'm so glad you are getting better too. I'm pleased that your Mummy is giving you food that you love and that Sierra is chasing you.

Just caught up on this thread and so pleased to hear that both Betsy and Prince are getting better.

Betsy, try to be a good piggy and not to bite your hooman slave because if they have poorly fingers they might not be able to provide the lovely veggies and medicine that are making you well. I know its nice to snuggle-up in your bed and have a lazy morning but sometimes those hoomans know what is best for you. :luv:
 
Well I've just given all the pigs their weekly check. This week Betsy has dropped weight again last week she weighed in at 1180g and today she was 1118g. I know 20g is whether they have had a wee or not. She has lost just over 40g since last week. She is starting to feel a bit skinny. I have never been able to feel her spine much before and I can now as well as her ribs more. Everything else is fine. There must be something going on. She seems fine in herself and has been DEVIL PIG the last couple of days as she has been in season and has been humping and chasing all the piggies.
 
Hopefully the extra weight loss might be due to her being in season? Piggle lost 30g last time she was in season due to guarding the toilet tray from Jezebel and Clover instead of eating... hope Betsy is ok! Is it back to the vets now?
 
I hadn't thought of that @PigglePuggle :doh:. I thought I'd weigh her every day and see if the downward trend continues over the next few days and if it hasn't gone up by Sunday, call the vet for another appointment. She seems perfectly well in herself. The other two girlies don't suffer from strong seasons and don't fluctuate much in their weight either.
 
If she's well and happy and being bossy that's the main thing! Piggle and Puggle both have quite big weight fluctuations due to mood and being in season, the week Theo was neutered Puggle lost 40g worrying about him (and she only weighs 800g) while Piggle gained 60g from eating Puggle's dinner- and Theo only lost 20g then gained it back in 4 days (boys dont let things interfere with dinnertime so much I reckon).

Mine all loose 40g is when in season, they are a nightmare trying to kill each other rather than eat. I hope it is just that for Betsy xx
 
Prince went down to 1115g yesterday from being 1144 the day before. I was so worried I fed him CC. Then hubby said he's been chasing Sierra the whole morning (I weigh him at around 9:30am and hubby was awake from 7:30am) and trying to hump the little one. And he was doing it the whole day. So he was in season. He was back to his weight when I weighed him last night and this morning (I weigh him 2x a day ever since the operation to make sure he is keeping his weight).

Piggies can give us a fright a lot of times! :help:
