Hi there my guinea pig max is on antibiotics at the moment as he has a runny nose! I was just wondering if it is normal for his Poo's to be black?

Thanks

Is he on baytril? Darker poos are not unusual for that.

Please give him a pinch of probiotic about 1-2 hours after you give the antibiotic to help bolster up the gut flora. You can either sprinkle it on a bit of veg or syringe it dissolved in 1 ml of water (gives two mouthfuls, so don't syringe it in one go!) Please weigh him daily instead of weekly, preferably at the same time in the feeding cycle for comparable results.

here is more information about probiotics: http://www.theguineapigforum.co.uk/...vitamin-c-overview-with-product-links.115404/

No he's not on baytril it's one that smells like bananas? Lol well he's nearly finished his course of antibiotics so do you think its worth getting probiotics he's only got couple days left on it :-/

That is septrin, but it is an antibiotic nevertheless!

Probiotics and recovery food is something you want to have at home, in case of an emergency, so you can hand feed and prop up the vital guts at any time. We have got tips for a first aid kit in our Caring for an Ill Piggy section. ;)
