Hi my poor 20 month old piggie Junior is booked in for wednesday at the vets for a bladder xray fingers crossed he does not have another stone. 8...

Best wishes to Junior for Wednesday :)

Hope Juniors X-ray goes ok.

He's gorgeous :) what a lovely coat

Awww what a stunner x)

Has he been crying when weeing or has there been any blood in his urine? Has he been on any antibiotics for a UTI yet?

Hi he was at the vets two weeks ago for cystitis he has been on Septrin for the past two weeks, the pink/reddish urine has cleared up and his wee is normal again but he is still crying when urinating so i'd rather get him xrayed to rule out another stone.

If he's still crying after 2 weeks of Septrin then I think you're definitely right to x-ray. Fingers crossed for you both tomorrow x

Handsome little chap he is, he looks chilled out in the photo.
Hope all goes well tomorrow and no stones are detected. It may be worth mentioning about putting him on cystaid, if it turns out to be another infection, this coats the bladder wall and helps calm the inflammation, along with the antibiotic also.

Hi Sharon that is one thing i will be asking the vet about the cystaid, is that the same as cystease?

Yes, I believe it is. Definately agree with the xray to rule out stones.

Hoping no stones are found, let us know how he gets on tomorrow. Lots of love and healing vibes to your little one

Lots of good luck vibes for Junior - I sooo understand this worry having been through it myself last week with Harley.
He had been diagnosed with bladder sludge (had a stone removed July 2011) and had an x-ray to rule out another which luckily, it wasn't :)
The vet did perform a washout to rid of any debris which I didn't realise would knock him around so much as he recovered from surgery within 24 hours but has taken a full week for him to recover and eat properly for himself.
Please keep us updated with Junior, know how you are feeling and can offer advice along with others who have experienced this.

This was the thread I did for Harley recently (who is almost 3 yrs old) so may give you an idea of what questions to ask your vet etc. and may reassure and help you and your little fur love:

Thinking of you x>>

Awww thank you very much. I have been reading on Harleys progress. When Junior had his stone removed in August it took him about a week to fully recover the same as your Harley. x

Well at 12.30pm i got a phone call from the vet to confirm that Junior has a bladder stone, she says it was quite a large one and asked my permission to take him into surgery straight away while he was still sedated, why of course i told her. She told me to call back at 3pm to find out how he got on, so at 3pm and a nervous wreck i phoned and yipeeeee! surgery went very well and my little trooper was awake from the GA he was still quite sleepy and disorentated and he is doing well. The vet says he might be allowd home tonight ive to call back at 5pm to find out. :)):)):))

Glad he is ok, lots of healing vibes to him. Please remember to ask for some pain meds as he will be sore after his operation. Lots of healing vibes to him x

Shame that he had a stone, maybe the vet could have a look at his diet to see if anything can be altered, as junior won't want that to happen again. Glad to here that he is ok though, must be a great relief. The vet might suggest a course of antibiotics, just mention the cystaid too.

Glad Junior is ok after the surgery, hope he has a good night tonight & hope you are ok too - it's such a nerve-wracking time when they are having surgery & you're just waiting around by the phone...

Just off the phone to the vet and she says if I'm happy enough to syringe feed and water Junior tonight then she will allow him to come home i told her I'm more than happy to syringe feed him i just want him home my nerves are shattered here. So he is due a pain injection at 6pm then i can collect him at 6.30pm i cant wait.

I'll be sure to ask for Cystaid. Should i start the dose of cystaid straight away or wait a few days?

Speak to the vet about gut stimulants too. These will keep his stomach moving as it's unlikely that he'll want to eat very much. You will also require an antibiotic, I would suspect, to ward off a possible infection from the operation.

Fingers crossed for a speedy recovery and best wishes for the next few days x

Vet will tell you best, but the sooner the better I would say.

Hi yes the vet gave me Septrin and Metacam for him and also Cystease capsules which she says i could start him on half a capsule straight away. Its 3am just now me and my other half are taking shifts to sit up with Junior as he needs syringed recovery feed every 2 hours and water syringed every half hour as he is still poorly and not intrested in eating though i did manage to get him to eat 2 slices of cucumber and some hay. The vet wants me to take him in 9.30am so she can check him over and find out how hes doing. Poor Junior is in the spare cage to give him some peace and quiet from the other two all snug and warm and having a well earned rest.

If you have access to fresh grass I find that this can usually tempt poorly piggies in to eating something.
It sounds like you're doing everything possible for him. I hope he perks up soon :)

Your doing so well. Hope Junior is feeling more comfy this morning x

Aw, so sorry it was another blooming stone grrr !
Pleased Junior is recovering from his ordeal - dandelion leaves are fab for bladder piggies as they act as a diuretic. We drove for miles last weekend hunting them down and came home with a nice bag full which I washed thoroughly to tempt Harley with and he loved them :) Certainly stimulated his appetite gradually :)
Only advice I can really offer as you sound extremely piggy savvy is do not expect a full recovery for around 7-10 days as I did and panicked...it's another experience we've had and know what to expect for future illnesses as the piggies are older now.
Hope Junior is soon up and about - I also think popping a convalescing piggy in with their cage mate/s helps as it is comforting for them to have as little possible changed from their normal habitat, seeing the others eating may encourage him to go for food himself.
Hugs sent for your boy and well done for your nursing skills, exhausting as it is getting up every few hours in the night, will pay off when you see results and a happy piggy running around although at this very moment, may seem like a long way ahead x>>

Hope Junior is ok today, I second Jerrybelly's tip for getting a bit of grass from the back lawn for him. It's the best thing I ever found for tempting a poorly piggie to eat. Hope you're ok too & not too tired, well done for getting food into him :)
