Just had an email off the woman i rescued my pigs from. Now i resceud them because she "apparently" couldnt cope with cleaning them out anymore...

I get an email from her asking for the cage back because she has started fostering ferrets...
How she can manage caring for ferrets when she said she couldnt care about guinea pigs is odd...

I feel like telling her what i think...

I should think a cage that has had guineas in it would drive ferrets mad, even if it was cleaned!

I've taken several lots of pigs from people who 'couldn't cope' or just didn't want them any more, only for them to say 'oh, we're keeping the hutches because we want to breed rabbits', or in one case - tortoises!

Definately do not give her the cage back, I cannot believe she even had the cheek to ask for it!
If she is that adament to foster ferrets, she can go out and buy a suitable cage for them.

I would be mad aswell if this happened to me!

There's no way I'd give her the cage back, If she doesn't know where you live I'd be inclined to mark her e-mail as spam

what a cheek! do not give the cage back, i cannot believe shes going to put ferrets in it.

I'd do the same, spam her!

You could always aplogise profusely and say that you've rehomed the guinea's *with* their cage? Explaining something like it's been so long since she was in contact with you assumed that she didn't want it anymore!

Or make her feel guilty and say "They're STILL looking for a home. Sorry, no cage for you!"

What cheek. I feel sorry for any of the ferrets she ends up fostering. Why do people go through animal fads?

I would just block her email as she doesn't know where you live so nothingn will come of it. :)

Thing is i spammed her last night but she sent me another email saying she needs it desperately.

I cannot believe anyone would let her keep ferrets in a 4ft wire cage anyway! Even for a short time...rolleyes

You will still receive mails even if you mark as spam you need to go to your controls and block her mails so none great through. :)

If she's that desperate she can go out and buy one! Maybe If she has to put her hand in her pocket she'll give up on the ferret Idea

Yeah but i dont want her to know that i have blocked her emails though...

If i spam someone it goes straight into my spam folder but it didnt this time! :{

True, well just delete without reading then. :)

I think because you've read the first one that your machine thinks it isn't spam.

I would ignore the email, let her get her own cage, hopefully the expense will make her think twice!

Just read this and I tend to agree with everyone else, I would delete her mails, she doesn't know where you live and I think she had a flippin cheek to ask for it back. Be firm you know you are doing the right thing.

Definately, ditto to the other posts. How cheeky! If she doesn't know where you live then I would just ignore the emails. If she needs to have ferrets then she needs to provide the appropriate housing for them. Cheek!

Cheers guys... :)

Part of me does want to send her an email explaining where she is going wrong but i will ignore them...

I cant believe she thinks its ok to have ferrets in a guinea pig cage rolleyes

That is SUCH a cheek! mallethead

I DEFINATELY wouldn't let her have it back, and would just completely ignore her. Makes you wonder who is allowing her to foster for them, doesn't it?!? :{

She blimmin kept the piggies in the cellar in the winter so god knows wha will happen to the ferrets...
Oh my god. She kept piggies in the cellar? where its probably way too cold and damp for them?

I agree, ignore her emails. If she doesnt know where you live, she obviously didnt care who got these poor piggies. She needs to learn about animals before getting more xxxxxxxxxxx

Yep she did...
To be fair though the pigs were in good condition when i got them but i wasn't happy about the cellar...
Havent heard anything back yet... My phone number changed since i got the piggies as well

Here goes... I'm going to stick my head above the parapet..! ;)

By ignoring her you're missing a great chance.

We're all in agreement that this woman should not really foster ferrets if she can't be bothered to clean out guinea pigs. I think we'd all agree that you probably shouldn't foster ANY animal if that's your attitude - all animals require some kind of mucking out or rudimentary care and if you can't be bothered then you'll never be bothered, whether you've got a tiny hamster or a horse.

So I think you should reply and hint this to her. You could make a little white lie and say that (as someone else had suggested) you'd rehomed the piggies (or some other piggies) with her cage, and apologize. Then you say 'but please be aware that the cage you left me with would be totally unsuitable for ferrets as it is a wire mesh cage and it would very much hurt their feet. Also, the cage you left me with is far too small to keep ferrets in etc.' Problem is, people don't realize these things. The people that keep taking in animals when they can't be arsed / bothered etc will never learn until someone who really does care about animals spells it out. I would gently but firmly make the point that, as a rescue (or someone that has a lot of experience with animals) i cannot let animals be put in discomfort or inappropriate surroundings.

Or you could ignore it! But the sad thing is this woman thinks she's doing a good thing - a thing which we all agree is pretty ridiculous. Perhaps you could use this opportunity to give her a chance to reconsider getting ferrets. After all, any other emails you get from her (after you've made your point) can be firmly filed under 'delete' :(|)

I can completely understand your point of view and i did consider what you suggested! (great minds think aloke and all that)

The thing is having spoken to her and already tried to put her off having ferrets (she told me she was "thinking" about it when i collected the pigs) she had an answer for everything...

I told her that having been around working dogs and ferrets that having them around the rabbits would be dangerous for the rabbit as ferrets kill rabbits... She said that although the ferrets would be housed on top of the rabbit there wouldnt be a problem etc...rolleyes

Anything i feel i do say will fall on deaf ears again and i wouldnt be able to hold back!
I think it would be better in this instance to go with the majority (ooo its like a parliamentary vote on here!)

It's just so not fair on the rabbit to be housed near ferrets - the poor thing! People are unbelievable. They will be able to smell the rabbit and he will be able to smell them and live in fear!

It's a toughie, isn't it.

It's just a shame that she doesn't realize the facts herself - if she couldn't cope with the poor little piglets then how is she going to adequately look after ferrets!

the pets she has (3 dogs and a rabbit) are well looked after. So nothing to report to the RSPCA or anything...

I can only hope she has to buy a better enclosure for the ferret (s)... Ferrets are so much smellier and harder to care for than pigs! The cage is in bad condition anyway...

I agree with everyone else and think that you should just ignore her - for all she knows you could have changed your email address and no longer use that one.

* i have deleted the email but still have it on file if anyone wants to see it*
