Teenage Guinea Pig
Any news on the scruffster? Thinking of you x
Ohhh so happy she's home with you and doing well!I have her home with me
Eating drinking pooing and seems relaxed!
Ill be watching her like a hawk for the next day or so to make sure there's no reaction to the gas or anything else
Fingers crossed! Feels great to have her back even though she was only gone for a day
Ohhhh what wonderful news!! Hoping she stays on this positive course!FINALLY SOME GOOD NEWS!
So from late last night the hollow noise had gone, and as of today it still isn't here.
I've just got back from the vets, our schedualed appointment from last week - she gave her a long examination and couldn't feel any unwanted lumps or bumps, she's not in any discomfort when her abdomen is manipulated.
Good gut sounds etc.
Her hair in general is still a little thin (we can see a bit more skin in between partings etc than we used to) but hopefully that will begin to thicken up again now.
HER WEIGHT IS BACK TO NORMAL! At her sickest during all of this she had gone down to 900 grams at one point - she is now back up to 1002!
Where do we go from here?
So her bloating has seemed to act in a cycle, she's been going from not bloated to bloated without any obvious triggers. We are hoping though as this is the first time we've got no hollow noise since her cyst ruptured that it is going to stay that way. But the action plan is as follows:
- Taken off the Zantac and metacam for today - judge how she reacts, check there is still a good poo count, if poos are down or she seems puffy reintroduce the Zantac
- We are stopping nuggets from now on, she is currently having thickened critical care from a bowl and is eating it well - we think that maybe after this the starch in nuggets she just won't be able to handle
- Very very small amounts of veg for now, thin slice of cucumber, small amount of herbs - building very slowly to see how we go
- Ringing the vets again at the end of the week to give them an update
I just wanted to say the biggest thank you to everyone that has contributed to this thread:

And everyone else sorry hard to find the names of everyone when writing on a mobile.
Your support emotionally and also medically over this emmensely hard time has been invaluable, and you have helped to save her life - I'm so very grateful.
It's still going to be a long road to recovery, as things could still go backwards now she's stopped the medication. But fingers firmly crossed!
