Dental Blodwen - dental and ringworm

Vets at 4.50pm with Blod and with Jezzy's balding floofy pants! Jezzy is quite typically spending the afternoon deliberately sitting in her own wee in a wee-soaked seagrass house so she will be damp and smelly for the vet and make me look like a bad piggy slave... I imagine Blod is doing the same upstairs, filling her clean fleecy tunnel with wee then rolling about in it!

What a good vet trip! Blodwen's check up was FREE OF CHARGE (love my vet) and her teeth look good and she hasnt lost any weight. Ringworm results still not in but that is GOOD because apparently the lab tries to get the ringworm spores to grow in a dish of warm stuff with nutrients like in skin, positive tests come back fast usually less than a week but they run the test for 2 weeks then if nothing grows at all its a definitite all clear. So still a week until all clear but looking very good.

Jezzy floofy pants has... mild eczema/ dermatitis with possibly a mild bacterial infection. NO MITES :) the vet took skin scrapes and hair samples and looked under the microscope while we waited. Not likely to be ringworm as its on her bum and isnt sore and has actually improved on its own since last weekend and nobody else has it and its not itchy. Baytril for a week then another check-up. My beautiful floof took her baytril like a good girl and got a carrot reward. £36 for skin and hair scrapes and a consultation and baytril!

All good news here! Maybe we can afford xmas after all :)

So pleased for you that things are positivelymoving the right way.:)
£36 for that lot, it's almost worth the petrol to drive to Liverpool, that's just the walk through the door fee here.

If Blod gets the all clear next week... maybe we could bond as soon as next weekend? The head vet thinks my 2 floofs will be a great team, she was really interested in the herd and agrees maybe Aunty Jezzy needs a little friend to keep her company when the others are busy with all that sex and dominance stuff :)

I think the head vet thought the junior vet might have been a bit over cautious before in his mite diagnosis and treatment and was trying to make up for us buying 3x5 doses of Xeno450 forv1 mite egg case! She wrapped Jezzy's baldy bum patch in sellotape then pulled it off (how rude!) and nipped the bald bit until it was sore then wiped the lot on microscope slides and went off to have a look down the microscope. Definitely no mites now anyway, possibly a bit of bacterial infection in a couple of dry flaky skin patches she's bitten or scratched. The vet took some photos too so she can see if its better/worse next week after the baytril and if its worse she'll send skin scrapes off to the diagnostic lab, if it is fungal its very mild probably not ringworm and she doubts its infectious after 6 weeks and no other pigs have anything similar :)

She was quite upset but I cuddled her and whispered the magic word "carrots" and she calmed down and took 0.4mls of baytril and a carrot slice to take the taste away when we got home! I think her and Blodwen have both figured out while waiting in seperate boxes in the car and at the vets that there is another floofy lady pig they dont know about and they are desperate to meet :)

Glad to hear the vet visit went well. It will be lovely if Blodwen can be with her friends for Xmas. x

I also found out that Blod does run around her cage and eat hay and drink from her waterbottle when we arent watching- she was camping out in our bedroom last night because we have family visiting, and she kept me awake all night nom nom nom rattle rattle nom nom band crash wheek wheek :)

Got Blod set up in a little cage next to the others. I cant fit the 120 cage in next to the C&C unfortunately so she'll have to make do with the 80 hospital cage until bonding day. Would wednesday be too soon?
Blod came out and wiggled her little lilac bottom at Theo and said hello to Piggle, but when big pig Clover and jealous wifey Puggle came over she ran into her hidey tube! She can meet Jezzy floof at critical care feed time on the sofa this afternoon...

Hopefully Blod and Jezzy floof will get on as they have sort of "met" while being taken to the vet the other day. At least she has said hello to Piggle and Theo and they seem to be interested in this new piggy member of the family.

Aw, that’s great news, been following your thread and you’ve both done a great job in getting little Blod rescued and back to good health. Can’t wait to see photos of her bonded with her new family x

When are you introducing blod to the herd? Cant wait 😊 and no doing decorations first like i did 😝

I'm not sure if the bonding session will be wednesday or saturday... those are both our usual cage clean out days when I'm not at work and the piggies expect several hours of playpen time. Wednesday seems a bit soon, but we've waited over 4 weeks now and Blod is in an 80cm cage since this morning because thats all that will fit next door to the big C&C cage in the piggy room!
I'll see how well they interact as neighbours first but it'll be wednesday or saturday :)

What great news. Can't wait to see them all together. Fingers crossed the bonding goes well. x

(...tiptoes in... is anyone else refreshing every couple of minutes looking for a new thread? Thought I'd come and check here, but its all quiet... tiptoes out...)
