New Born Pup
I have two adopted and paired boars.
One of them, Odo, behaves very nervous when outside of 'home', despite a spread of hideys, veggies everywhere. I even bought a playpen thinking maybe it was because of the amount of open space and to go in stages ... but he's equally unsure of that. I've even tried putting classical fm on which he seems to enjoy when inside. He either hides or sits shock still and then makes a break for home. Very occasionally he has grabbed a piece of food to take home with him ...
He was extremely shy when he arrived, but has since developed such a character and is really confident as long as he's in and there's no one new about: popcorning around, demanding food at the slightest sound of a bag, etc. I worry that he is not getting enough exercise and also Quark is now spending less time out because once he notices Odo is in, he heads in to be with his friend ... or comes out to get food, goes home to eat it/have it stolen by Odo. Or if I just get Quark out alone for cuddle time (because I feel like it upsets Odo) it isn't long before he calls across to his friend (or vice versa) and they have a conversation which sounds like they're lonely without one another so I end cuddle time /: ... but maybe it's my brain that puts the "loneliness" there? Odo is really good for nail clipping, health checks etc and after going back he turns around for his veggie reward, but more than that seems too much at the moment ... ?
I think it is Quark that is the dominant pig, but it's hard to tell, generally they seem quite equal? Being more dominant on the things they care about but only very briefly, but if Quark gets annoyed enough to bother, he is the one with the last say. They do have atleast 2 or 3 of everything though
Does anyone have experience with this?
Is it a case of them still needing more time? They warmed to me much quicker than I expected after reading the forum and sleep with their feet asunder looking very cute ! ... Maybe this is the area they feel they need the most time? I've only been their piggy slave for almost 2 months (; and they had little human contact I believe before they came to me. I think they are also still young, possibly coming up to a year old.
I guess I'm just looking for advice on what I should do. I don't want them to get bored or become unhealthy, but equally don't want to be putting them in stressful situations needlessly.
