Yasmin Marie
Junior Guinea Pig
So all was going well being a new Piggie Mum and I spoiled my boys rotten.
It wasn't to long after they started maturing *ahem* that we started having problems.
I noticed that they weren't sleeping together any more, thought it could be too warm.
Then they started fighting more and chattering a lot and chasing each other.
When on a trip to the vets I asked for some advice and she said it can happen with boys when they become teenagers and to keep an eye on it.
I was devastated at the thought of spiltting them up, but needs must.
You can see on the attached picture of Tyrion he was getting beat up by Lupin and had little cuts all over him.
It was so awful but the vet advised once I had split them up it would be for good.
The final straw came when I was getting them out of their hutch to go to the vets and Lupin had near enough ripped Tyrions ear off on the bottom!
I felt so awful and the worse Piggie Mum. Vet said it was a bad one but not the worse that she had seen.
This is when I separated them, the outdoor cage was ok as it was a double tier one so it just got boarded up where the run was.
You could see that Tyrion was always desperate to get to Lupin and you could see that he was lonely.
This is when we started the process of getting them some girlfriends!
So it wasn't all bad but just wanted to share to make other new piggie mums aware, even though they were bought from Pets At Home and in the same pen and advised they will be fine together,
It is never a guarantee. Especially when they are evidently from different litters, something I was too naive to even notice!
But I love my boys no matter what and will do anything for them so got them some beautiful ladies who i formally introduce in a new post!
Thanks xx
