snuggles

i just went to the pet store and bought a new baby pig sooo cute but the box handle broke and she took a fall. Its back leg was lifeless, so i went back to the pet store, the store owner said itthe leg was dislocated and broken he was going to kill it! He said i could get a new one but, He said the only oither option was to cut off the leg and and hope it heals right. He said a vet opperation was not possible it is to little and would not survive the anesthesia. He said it would hurt her but it would be quick. I couldn't bare to let him kill it. So we chose to let him try to cut it off! This is so awful. I feel terrible! I just want to know if we are doing the right thing! and could we give it some tylonol or somthing?

i don't know sorry:(

got my fingers crossed for the little piggiexxxxxxxxxx and ronald has his little paws crossed tox

we hope everything goes wellx

That course of action is sickening and despicable in the extreme.
It may be possible to splint the leg. To let the shop owner attempt to cut it off is cruelty.

OMG get that little piggy to the vet and do not let the pet shop do anything of the sort, that is terrible.

I had a five week old who was dropped by a horrid boy at my school. My vet said it was broken in the worst place but Oreos leg was xrayed, set and bandaged up and he was fine. Because the baby is young it can heal well. Take it to a vet ASAP or it will start to heal wrong. Never ever go back to that pet shop I can't believe they could be so disgraceful, the shock alone could kill the baby.

Whereabouts are you?
Who has the pig at the moment?
If it is still at the shop I doubt that you will ever see it again.

I dunno about you but If someone would listen to ap petstore with THAT kind ofi information I really do thing that it really happend. This is only one post. They might be trying to get a rise out of the forum. But If I'm wrong sorry but it really seems unlikely.

Don't let the pet store do ANYTHING. Don't trust them!

You should have have said "bog off!" the second he said anything about killing the poor creature.
Honestly, you should have been gone like a shot after that.

Take that pig to a vet where someone who KNOWS about animals will help you.

Some pet stores are good...As long as they're run by animal lovers.
Some pet shops are evil because they're run by morons who can't tell a Gerbil from a Hamster.

Please! Take that little baby to a vet. I am begging you.

please dont let the petstore do anything, get the baby back now,
i also had a accident with my piggy at the petshop but he fractured a few vertabrae in his back,
now yes he did end up dying but it was infection that got him 3 months later his back in general healed perfectly fine,
there is no reason this little piggy cant survive too, please dont let them do this,if they do i guarantee this bub wont make it8...8...8...

OMG!! Ive just read all these postings and i am sick to my stomach there is nothing i can do now the store is closed i left messages though to see if i can catchhim before he does anything. I am so stupid i didn't know what to do, he is a pet lover and it is a very good pet store family owned they raise all their animals by hand, I just took it for granted that he knew what was best for this situation. I feel so terrible right now! 8...

dont worry you cant reverse it now,all i can say is dont give up and badger them if you dont get the piggy back, petstores arent all bad but i have heard of so many that like to cover things like this and would rather you just buy another piggy,
in future please consider rescuing as then you arent supporting the bad petshop/breeding conditions.
There are so many lovely piggies in need of homes and each time we buy a petshop or breeders piggy we deny them of a home,i hope everything works out with the little piggy xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

What an awful story. It's made me feel a bit sick actually.
Please let us know what happens eh?

Would this kind of behaviour from a pet shop warrant a call to the council licencing department as it is rather barbaric. I'm pretty sure pet shops aren't licenced to perform major surgery on animals without anaesthetic. I'm sure the RSPCA would have something to say to him as well. I do hope the piggie is ok. Good luck from all of us.

id say its the petshops own vet the piggy has been taken to,the problem is they may just get the GP euthanased rather than trying to fix the leg xx

That is a concern. They can just simply lie about it afterward. So let's just pray for the best.

That poor little baby.
Don't blame yourself, Snuggles. It's alright. You didn't know what to do and you did what you thought was best.
That counts for something.

I just hope you can contact them before they do anything because I can't stand the thought of what they'll do to that little guy.

Please let us know how you get on. I am genuinely concerned.
I hope, for you and your piggy...That this has a happy ending.

I was really upset about all this last night. It just reminded me of how scared I was for Oreo when his leg was broken. Our regular vet was closed when Oreo got hurt so we took him to a pet shop to see what they said. They wanted to kill him probably by hitting him on the desk in the back like I once saw them do to a mouse that was given to a snake. I was only 14 and I just held him and cried. My mum told them we were going to get a second opinion and we took him to an emergency vet. It cost us a fair bit but he was fine. I really hope your baby pig is ok, if you get the piggy back from the pet shop make sure a vet sets the leg cuz some don't and Oreo had his leg bandaged and splinted. My piggies are sending lots of healing wheeks n hugs xx>>>

BIG HUG - what a mess and an upset for you!

Please tell us what's happened when you come back from the shop!

I am so sorry you've been thru something like this with your first experience with piggies.........i see so many of our lovely people have helped you.......please do not blame yourself you only did what you thought right xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
I do hope you can resolve this and the little piggie will at least have a chance :)
I'd also like to welcome you to the forum, hi whee are in OZ (aka Australia) hello and sorry to hear about your experience :(
We're a friendly bunch on here that care deeply about our piggies and our friends xxxxxxxxxxx
Really hope you return and join in with us :):)

i am shocked and sad, but if the shop is closed, I would dread to think what the pet owner will do, i have thoughts going around in my head, but i dont want to say! best of luck xxxxx

so shocked do not know what to say ....... I am horrified 8...

OMG I'm shocked to read that, i feel so sad for the little piggy hope all turns out ok let us all know what happens xx

I too am appalled at the pet store owners suggested actions. Sickening.

You have done nothing wrong, you simply put your trust in the store owner and assumed that he knew best. That's what most people do because they've no reason to believe otherwise. I do hope things turn out well and that you are able to get your piggie back. Good luck. xx

Oh dear, that poor little piggy. I do hope he will be alright, and I do hope you will be alright too Snuggles. Please let us know what is happening.

only being 2 posts made by this user....are we sure that this was a True story? I was so concerned when i read it at first...because Abby had just hurt her leg and I thought, oh cool...i can get some information off this previous thread...then to sit and read the Horrible Actions described...i cried for my Abby even more thinking oh no! am i going to have to have this done? etc. Maybe this was just someone trying to get a rise out of us? I sure hope so! Just my opinion. Not sure either way!

I'm sure this thread is in the best interests of the piggy,i was not judged for joining with my thread about my piggies fractured back so i will not judge this person either, there could be a number of reasons why they havent returned but saying what you said is not going to make it easier for them:( ,these sorts of actions by petshops are very common so i have no doubt that it is true.
