We've just had to rush Bruno to the emergency vets. We noticed this morning that he was a little quiet but still eating and moving about as normal. Weighed him, a loss of 20g since Sunday, nothing too alarming so decided to see how he was this evening when we got home. Got home, he seemed the same, but when offered food (including his fave veggies) he wouldn't touch a thing. Back on the scaled showed a loss of another of 150g totally 170g since Monday. Straight to the vets we went.
Bruno had an examination and vets found a mass in his abdomen, so he was put under sedation to have an xray done.
Bruno has a large mass attached to his bowel that looks like it is also blocking it. The mass could be an abscess but given it's structure and position the vet is positive it is something nasty. It's about the size of a golf ball. He's extremely bloated and obvious has a blockage somewhere. Vet has thought it fair to see if we can rally him round overnight to see if he can recover enough to have further investigations to try and determine what the lump is. At the moment he is too poorly for surgery and vet doesn't think it wise to try and aspirate the lump as either way he would need surgery either way to remove it. Given it's area it's highly unlikely that surgery will be successful, especially if it is attached to the bowel, so for the moment he's been dosed up with painkillers, antibiotics and zantac to see if we can get his guts moving again. If no improvement by morning then we will sadly be taking him in to help him over rainbow bridge
