He had a back tooth filing operation last week when the abcess burst the vet had to abort and get the bleeding under control. But he still isn't eating (except some veggies!)or drinking . The vet saw him yesterday and spoke to her clinical director at our local animal hospital on the phone and there they can use a camera to have a better look but it will mean another general anethetic, which I don't want! Do all vets use general anethetic to have a good look there? He seems better in himself but he just isn't eating or drinking on his own! He has been having critical care and water through a syringe but I really want him to start eating on his own! Does anyone have any tips or advice?x

I do not have any advice but I just wanted to say I am really sorry your little on is going through this.

I have a Sanctuary for guinea pigs with dental issues www.teasnorthampton.co.uk My vet is able to carry out full mouth examination and dental work without GA.

I offer part time places at my Sanctuary to enable piggies to receive treatment from my vet, Simon Maddock, and then to return home when their dental issues have been resolved.

We are having dental issues too at the moment, tonight the vet washed her mouth out with water and used a camera to examine her back teeth. This was done fully awake with a nurse holding her. Our normal vets weren't able to do this so we have been referred to this specialist who had the equipment and the know how to do this. Best of luck :)

Is there any of these specialised vets in the reading/ Guildford area?x

Sorry i'm really not sure, none are listed in our recommended vet's list, but maybe someone has mentioned one in the thread right up the top in health and illness ?
Just want to wish little Bubbles all the best!

I would strongly urge you to contact Debbie and arrange a stay for Bubbles with her; if necessary, the piggy bank members can help with transport.

Debbie (furryfriends) in her piggy hospital can provide the expert hand feeding/medicating care that is the other half of the dental treatment that Simon Maddock provides; it is the combination of the treatment and the round the clock care that is at the heart of their success.

Debbie has already saved several piggies' lives that way, who were able to return to their owners afterwards. At least one has come from as far as the South West!

Debbie has looked after piggies' of mine and I use Simon myself for anything that is too tricky for my own local (not specialist) vets; I can give my endorsement to both wholeheartedly!

The vet, Simon, is really good. He looked at Berties teeth and gave him a thorough examination. I knew he was going to be good when he opened the carrying box and took Bertie out himself! Unlike my doggy vet who asks me to take piggies/rats/gerbils out and do they bite? If little piggie is no better try to get him to Debbie.

Simon did it for me when he simply arranged my ever so skittish Lymington rescue Caron in a lying sideways position on the treatment table with just a few strokes of his hands for a bladder x-ray without GA - and Caron remained absolutely still the whole time though... ?/

Debbie has kind of a standing appointment with him, so any piggy of hers can be seen and treated on the day whenever and as soon as necessary. Dental treatment often takes a few rounds until the teeth are properly adjusted again. Both are also experienced to do whatever can be done when there are complications, like abscesses.

He's fab :) When I rang to check how my Daisy was after her op, I could hear him saying "Hello sweetheart how are you feeling?" to her x)
